What? And you think a fully integrated Europe is going to solve these problems. Would be nice but you're dreaming.

I don't want our government to lose economic control over this country.

Why can't some of you see how much economic control we will lose?

And by the by, NOFX are the worst band in the world. They have no musical talent and are purely famous for their shock factor.

    KEEP THE POUND!!!
Europe already have to much power over us at the moment, look at the ounces and kilogram war going on in the courts at the moment.
And as for the royal family, they may cost us a few quid to keep them, but they earn more than 3 fold what they cost in tourism.
And as for Diana, I better not get on to her coz i will offent alot of people and that is not what I am about.

    Hello, my name is John. I like to dress up as a kipper at weekends. <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/guin.gif"&gt;

Yeh i agree with you there snoop. The euro is insecure and weak and nowhere near as strong as the pound. Interest rates and inflation will fluctuate and could cause problems.

The Swiss want none of the EC or the Euro and they are doing quite well thank you.
The Norwegians can't see the benefits of joining the EC.

I am of the opinion that a free trade area is beneficial to England. However, I think that the English might be subject to the more economically powerful Germans. I don't think its bigotry it is just human nature. The powerful like to lord it over everyone else.

I fear for the loss of English culture in a unified borderless Europe. The UK is experiencing devolution. The Scottish seperatist movement is quite large and vocal. Why not? The oil is up north. The Welsh have kept their language to a great extent and now have some local autonomy. I won't even touch the Northern Ireland question.

Blair and Labor should proceed cautiously and protect English interests. English citizens should not end up as the poor relations in the EC. Keep the Pound!

I also happen to think having a royal family is.....well ...... British!

Sorry! I would not so readily give up sovereignty so many Englishmen have died to protect!

Well there are my humble ramblings........

man of kent - you are right democracy and capitalism aren't the same thing.

Democracy - political system, people have a voice in the polocies of there government (by the way both the US and UK are at least supposed to be Republics, democracy through repersentation).

Capitalism - economic system, private ownership of business.

The UK is more towards a socialist economy because of all the governement run businesses (US is also gaining more of a socialist economy)

Well I am taken aback, I thought that the UK was as liberal as they get (our liberals are your conservetives), but I didn't realize that the most of Europe was far more liberal than the UK.

Anyway, Besides the religious aspect that people are trying to rebuild the Roman Empire (whatever you are trying to call it) at bring about the end of the world.

It is bad for the UK. Why would a country try and give up their independance and freedom? Most people in America already think that the UK is laking a lot of freedom why would they ask for one more to give up. Besides the points already given about how poor the Euro is and the fact that they would be supporting other countries with there taxes all the time instead of humanitarian efforts that the UN keeps dragging us into.

PS the UN can Fu(K off! America doesn't want you and you can leave long Island as soon as possable!

Er....didn't the US create the united nations? Wasn't it Harry Truman's answer to world peace, to replace the 'league of nations' which had failed - leading to WW2? And doesn't the US have excessive control over the workings of the UN - aren't you infact arguing for the distruction of one of your country's major powerbases?

    Just a thought.

true we did create the UN, true we did have a lot of power. Sadly it has turned into a haven of liberals that would make even your labor party blush. The have tried several time to make legislation that would destroy our nations bill of rights. ie the latest weapons bill, completely stop all purchase, sale, or even giving of weapons to private citizens. Suposedly to stop rebels from getting weapons in Africa and other places as well (maybe good intentions, but way to intrucive into our rights). This example might not mean much to you, but to US citizens it's a very big deal.

and back to the subject, if you drop the pound you will lose a part of you national identity and become just another part of the New Roman Empire (or EU for short)

Check out page 1 of this thread, you'll see that I agree with you.

    Hell, I'd rather be American, <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">, LOL.

Minor point though - it'll be a Franco/German Empire rather than a Roman one.

I am undecided on whether the Pound should be kept or not. If you don't really care or your undecided to then don't read this...

    Anyway...

    Pound
I think the pound is one of the best currencies (being bias due to my British(ness)) so I think that the pound is sort of national pride and heritige (spelt right?) and I have been used to the pound for all my life.

    Euro
The Euro would make Europe a contendable market (I think the biggest or something) it would also make it easier when I go on holiday, no smelly French shopkeeper will be able to rip me off so I think that the Euro could be the best option as we will drop behind and the Euro will run all over the Pound.

Thanks for reading this if you did, or even if you are still alive?
