did nebody read the paper yesterday and read about the army sarge who bayonetted a rookie over gay taunts?! personally i think this is sick and very worrying that these people act as the queen's bodyguards. neways here's (more or less) the full story:
Lance sergeant Steven Ross went crazy after hearing rookies were gossiping about his sexuality. He called up 50 Scots Guards recruits and demanded: " Which one of you wee bastards is going around saying i'm a poofter?"
Ashley Hook (18) took the rap although he WAS NOT to blame and did this so that the whole platoon wudn't be punished.
Ross (28) then marched the lads to a swimming pool and ordered them to do press-ups.
Hook, who had obviously had enough refused to do so and Ross is said to have punched him to the ground for this. He then went to the store and pulled out a large bayonet, normally used on an SA80 rifle.
Witnesses have said that at first Ross held the blade to Hook's neck, until he was dragged off by other sergeants. This is were it gets bad.......As he was pulled away, Ross threw the bayonet at Hook who span around to protect himself levaing a bayonet stuck fast between his shoulder blades.
Hook was rushed to hospital.
So far Ross has been taken off duty while an investigation into whether the stabbing was deliberate or not takes place. O Wednesday one official said: "Hook was entirely blameless. He is regarded as a model recruit and should do well in the army."
Another spoke of the incident as "Apalling".
It has been said that this case is a one-off where an instructor developed a grudge against a recruit. It is said all this started due to rivalry between the Scots Guards and the Grenadier Guards who are two of the elite regiments that make up the queen's bodyguard.
Ross is expected to face a court martial and could lose his place in the army.
Previously at another base an Irish lieutenant broke an officer cadet's jaw in a brawl over a blonde.
So wot are ur opinions on this. Wot do u think should be done. Although laws r very strict, should they be even more strict? There are many questions to be answered involving these "one-off" cases and the one's above r just a few of those.

I wasnt even aware there was such a rank as Lance Sergeant. I think any sergeants in the army are able to handle being called a poofter. Marched them to a swimming pool to do press ups?? Hook refused to do pressups when everyone else did? Wow bayonets used effectively as throwing knives...very impressive...Hes facing a court martial and may get chucked out of army? I think if this were true then he would be facing criminal charges and be lucky to avoid jail time.
Sorry Kiz, but this story reeks of bullshit to me..

Who expects any regiment to be perfect? From what I can tell the Sergeant lost his rag and is now being dealt with accordingly. No problem.
In any case, the Royal Guard does change on a regular basis. It's not just the Army that gets the honour, either: the RAF Regiment gets a turn, too.
