And it is going to happen. It's not a pipe dream. People aren't looking for peace which is why there isn't any. Get enough people working towards peace and voila it works!

Magicman, that is exactly what I am trying to say.....

    Don't be so pessimistic....!

I wrote this a couple of years ago when I used to think like you....

    I wonder

    I wonder if there’s a reason,
    A reason we could see.
A reason that explains the things
that happen to you and me.

I wonder if there’s any sense,
    A sense that we’d believe.
A sense that we could hold to
when these things just happen to be.

I wonder what the next step is?
The step we all should take.
That’ll help us deal with all of this
when in the morning we awake.

    I wonder and I wonder,
    How to laugh again today,
And how to feel that happiness
As we carry on our way.

But it doesn't have to be like that. I am always a believer. My belief is the ONLY faith I have. It keeps me sane....

Lets assume that NATO decides, unilaterally to give up its defense policy, alys down it's arms and offer to open a 'dialogue' with Bin Laden.

How long do you think it will be before we can stop him laughing?

As I have said in another thread, world peace is just a dream becuase there are too many vested interests in war mongering - and not just the arms trade. Religion has a HUGE part to play too. In the case of Bin Laden, it is a prime motivator. He doesn't want dialogue any more than the US does. He wants to see the US brought to its knees, and he wants control of the 'holy land' - the Arabian Peninsula.

Not much room for dialogue when someone wants your entire nation dead, is there?

Man of Kent, If it doesn't happen this time, especially after our lessons from both the previous world wars, then I guess we can expect never to learn...

It's not just about dialogue of course, its about education, compassion, humanity, and love. We see these happening everywhere, and in the aftermath of recent events tears have led to laughter when the blood is washed away.

Peace in in everyone. It is the ability to imagine peace that convinces me that it is possible.

If I knew only war, and conflict and not peace then I would never believe.

    Could it ever be?
The land we share amongst us,
    Shadowed with hate and envy,
Could we ever love each other?
    Fight the greed;
So long as we have known man would disagree:
    So, could it ever be,
Or is it just a fantasy?

When bin Laden says "All Americans must die", maybe he's just trying to open up a dialogue?

His negotiating terms would probably include: All Americans and Jews must commit suicide.
