Hey History Fans,

Ever here of operation sealion?

let me tell you about it

y'see the mighty British empire was not fairing so well against the nasty nazis.
except for a few token victories by monty(1000's of miles away)in N. Africa they were getting their @sses handed to them.
In 1941 hitler launched operation Barbarosa the invasion of Russia. By 1942 the nasty nazi juggernaut was steaming across russia.

why did they do this? were they commiting suicide being occupied fighting the brits and frenchies along with the benelux allies and attacking stalin's brainwashed masses as well?

No!
they longer felt threatened by the west. they ran the allies into the sea at dunkirk.
had goring been a bit brighter he could have used the luftwaffe to anilhilate the brits there.

well do the occupation of france and a stunning sucess in russia, hitler began planning Operation Sealion, the combined airborne and amphibious invasion of merry ole England.

so where were we while those lazy americans sat around and did nothing?

we were getting defeated.

then hitlers accomplises, tojo hideki and the emporer stepped on their dorkus majorly,
they attacked Pearl Harbour.

an ally of japan became an enemy of the americans.

suddenly the nasty nazis were getting defeated on all fronts. Hitler no longer had the bodies or resources to sustain or tie up in an invasion of england.

the yanks were creeping up from italy.

D-Day would not have been possible without the awesome might of the US.

you compare beacheads? gold, juno, sword, were nothing compared to omaha or utah.

why was eisehower the supreme commander of shaef? because their was not a suitable alternative.

DeGualle? Montgomery? Mountbatten?

get real! they are the ones who allowed hitler to get out of control in the first place.

I'm not saying americans won WW2, what I am saying is we all won it together and it is damn certain that we would not have without the Americans.

those V-2's quit flying because the US 8th AF bombed the living shit out of the launch sites.

they also bombed the Ruhr and killed the nasty nazis industry.

How did britain get a majority of it's war material?
It was called the Lend Lease Act, look it up sometime.

till then,
Ciao baby

Have you actually read any history books, or do you rely on Hollywood and Kelloggs for your education?

Hitler's plan to invade Britain - Operation Sealion - was to take place during 1940, except he didn't count on the RAF, who kicked the Luftwafe's asses in the Battle of Britain, which ran from May to September 1940. At this point Hitler realised that his invasion was doomed because the RAF had air superiority. This was BEFORE he invaded Russia and BEFORE a single member of the US forces was committed.

In fact it is widely believed by Military tacticians that his invasion of Russia was his undoing because he had forces committed on two fronts and he could not afford to leave either unguarded.

The first air raids on Berlin took place using British planes - again during 1940.

After Japan had bombed the Pearl Harbour, Hitler declared war on the US, not the other way around.

At this point the UK still stood alone against the Nazis, had we capitulated at this time then ALL would have been lost - for the US too, because the Nazi's would have had TOTAL power across Europe.

It was Montgomery who was in the process of defeating Rommel in Africa (the Brits had already routed the Italians) just as the US decided to commit troops, who promptly invaded behind Rommel's forces. It was then that both US and the rest of the Allied forces invaded Italy (again Hollywood may have you believe that Patton was on his own)

As for allowing Hitler to get out of control, I believe that the US ambassador to Britain returned to Washington and stated that Britain would lose and that trhe US should negotiate with Hitler. He was also a known anti-semite. His name? Joseph Kennedy, you might have heard of him - he had a couple of famous sons.

You are right the war wouldn't have been won without the US, but the same could be said for every nation who formed the allied army (Aussie, Russians, French, Irish, Indians, Africans etc) so give everyone credit and for god's sake stop taking history lessons from the back of a cereal box.

Ever hear of the fucking Resistance, dumbass?

Or the Free French forces who fought alongside the Brits? Or the French pilots in the RAF? Or the SOE who ran agents inside France and recruited French citizens?

Just because they had been soundly beaten didn't stop them running a guerilla war - and we all know how effect they can be.

    Kent,

you must be an imbecile. arrogant and cocky with your snotty english atittude.

    Montgomery was a f*ckup

Market-Garden-say no more a real military genius

    Mountbatten-Dieppe another winner!

How about PM Chamberlain? didn't he give half of europe to the nasty nazis?
    damn right he did!

the history you read is slanted and one sided. always showing the greater glory of britain and not her dark moments...

I think Sportster said go play in a microwave to a few of you intelectuals, I have a far superior idea:

Sportster, there are some people in this country who ahve a theory that Americans are uneducated morons without charm or wit. That they cannot see beyond their own shores and view the US as the dog bollocks.

Recently some of your countrymen joined this site and started to contradict that theory by providing well researched and educated arguments in support of something they believe in.

And then you come along and prove that this theory is correct. Fuckwit.

If you have nothing interesting to add, why do you bother posting at all?

Not necessarily. They worked behind enemy lines, destroying lines of communication, brodges, railways etc They tied up German units to stop them being used against both the Russians and the rest of the allies. They provided intelligence from within occupied europe.

I agree that the Germans would probably have been defeated eventually but you should not underestimate the important part this all played in the final outcome.

As i said, we all know how disruptive a well run guerilla campaign can be. It was used against the French and US in Vietnam - it was used against Iraq - it was used by the Afghans against the Russians - it was used by the Sudanese against the US - it is used by the Provos against the Brits in Ireland - it used by the SAS, SEALS and Green Berets.

Dude it wasn't me that got the date of Operation Sealion wrong. I was just correcting your claim of historical knowledge.

I agree that Dieppe was a fuck-up but then are you suggesting that ALL US military actions have been successful?

The lessons learned with British and Canadian blood on that day, later helped in the landings in Italy and on D-day.

And whilst Market Garden wasn't sucessful, Monty HAD kicked Rommel ass in Africa, had kicked ass in Italy and was appointed Eisenhower's deputy.

Neville Chambelain proclaimed 'peace in our time' - the fuckwit - as a result he has gone done in UK history as an appeasing moron who was duped by Hitler. He nearly made good a few months later when he declared war after the Polish invasion, but he will always be remembered for giving up the Czechs. Took the US two more years, and I repeat it was the Germans declared on you.

The history I read reflects both the good and bad points of what my country has done. I have NEVER said that we are a perfect nation with a perfect record. I never said that it was the Brits who won the war, I actually give credit and am grateful for the sacrifices made by your countrymen in both World Wars. But I do not forget that it was also in your country's interests to join those wars and that neither was a selfless act.

But what I cannot accept or understand is the constant approach by certain elements within the US which suggests that you won this single handedly. I cannot understand why the US feels the need to re-write history for it's own glory or to make money. The recent film U-571 being a prime example - based on a act carried out by two British Seamen before the US even joined the war and yet the film portrays this as a glorious US victory - that story would have just as good if it had portrayed the truth. It's no wonder that you have a slanted view of world history.

Apologies to Marine Force Recon from the US and the Pathfinders in the UK, and I am sure there are others around the world I have missed, but the point remains the same.

Man of Kent, you make good points. Except for the above. There is nothing to support the allegation that ALL would have been lost. We don't know, and we can't know. Anymore than we can know what Ireland would have been like if the English hadn't invaded.

Equally, we don't know what would have happened had the USA not entered the war. The USSR did bring terrific pressure to bear against Germany, and might have stood a chance of winning on its own.

Perhaps the USA was necessary, perhaps not. We'll never really know. It was certainly a great help, that's for sure.

Who won the war? The ALLIES. An alliance. A team. Just like a sports team, everyone did their bit. Show some respect to the dead by acknowledging their contribution to today's world.

Excuse me - did I say we were ungrateful? No.

Did I say we would have won without the USA? No.

Did I say that, because the war was wought WITh the USA, we will never truly know what would have happened WITHOUT the USA? Yes.

Sportster 1200C I fail to remember one useful post you've made, In this thread or any other.

Why can't you take part in a reasonable discussion? Why must you resort to insulting people all the time? Do you lack the intelligence to have a informative debate coz all you seem to do is offend people?

I'm pretty much done, now. Had my "Stress Management Therapy" this weekend (went out into the woolds with my AK-47, SKS and Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag and vented a little. I wish you all had that luxury, it's a lot of fun) and I'm all better, now.

You may resume your arguments. sorry if I cranked you up a bit, no harm intended.

    Peace?
