why doesnt everyone just abandon the british isles and move to Austrailia? Its nice and sunny down there. I mean, whover posted that really big long post was right. Most people have forgotten about what its really about anyway, they have a skewed view of it if they DO know what its about.

C'mon, theres PANTloads of space in Austrailia. The boat leaves tommorow, so dont tell Posh Spice or Beckham that we're leaving and we'll watch them burrow for food.

Most people think that, say you are living in Ireland, think that ALL british people are saying 'hey we want ireland' or whatever. Thats not entirely true.

Democracy (or whatever england is nowadays) is an illusion anyway. Yes we elect these people but they dont necessarily speak our ideas (otherwise the letter i wrote to John Major when i was 8 would have meant he gave every school kid a packet of Wine Gums).

Most people are stupid and apathetic. No-one REALLY cares about anything anymore as long as we have the security and comforts of our jaded prison cell. Most of us gave up our real freedom for cable television a LONG time ago.

You can say 'Oi matey i'm a vegan' or 'i voted Nader' all you want, you know its true.

And while i'm at it Velvet Underground were WAY better than the Beatles. Mwooohahaha! How do ya like THEM apples?

*laffs* dont hate me, i dont know whats REALLY going on in Northen Ireland but i dont think anyone does anymore. Whoever said it was right... theres nothing left but a 'them and us' feel to it all.

Must go now, Dukes Of Hazzard is on telly.

    Rock on,

something i dont get about the protestant religion...

when we die, will we see Henry the 8th as our god or something?

I'm not really religious at all but i think in some book somewhere i'm a protestant. I might change that to Buddhism though. Just to be trendy. Or maybe Scientlogy.

THATS IT! WHY CANT THERE BE A WAR AGAINST SCIENTOLOGISTS AND MORMONS? No-one likes them anyway *laffs*

    Rawk!

The scientologist and mormons have 'WAY' too much $$$$$$$$$ to be messing with them.

That's the solution, give IRA so much money that no one wants to mess with them...problem solved!

    Diesel,
This morning on the news we, US, were treated to the film from the catholic parents taking their small children, girls, to a catholic school with the route lined by protestants throwing rocks and insults at the terrified children. They were beautiful and innocent children wanting to go to school...and some want the IRA to stand down and give up their guns...when pigs fly!

I can easily say that seeing those catholic girls and the protests against them was the single most disturbing thing ive ever seen on TV..I cant believe anyone could do that to innocent kids. Seeing that has really made me think about where my support lies in the area.
because it was british troops protecting the protestants

The troops and police were protecting the catholics actually. Thats why you could see the soldiers facing off against the bastard protesters. Today was the second day that these animals have vented their anger on kids and today the soldiers and police pushed the protesters a lot further back. Theres no way they were protecting the protestants on this one..

Incidentally the protestant protesters threw a pipe bomb at the soldiers protecting the kids. One soldier was injured.

The people involved in these protests are nothing more than vile animals. They have almost destroyed any support I had for loyalists.

Diesel, the troubles in Northern Ireland are not a religous war. Religon is just used as a badge of difference. Infact true christians are pacifists, ever heard passages in the bible such as you shall beat swords into ploughshares, love your enemy etc. Most concientious objectors who refused to fight in wars did so on religous grounds too. The people who call themselves protestants are infact descents of settlers who were given land in Ulster by Brtain in 1603 to maintain Britains' rule in Ireland. They kept their religon as a means of identification. Sure some of them are practicing protestant christians and a minority are religous fanatics who use religon to deepen the divison between the two communities, but the majority are not they just use the name protestant to identify themselves as loyalists. The same is true of the catholics, who are descendants of the original Irish and earlier settlers, they keep the name of their religon for the same reason to identify themselves as republicans.

The reall reason for the troubles is that the protestants/loyalists think that they have something to lose by joining the republic as they used to have their own parliament in Ulster, stormont that gave them tthe best jobs and homes. The catholics/republicans got the worst that is why they want to join with the south as they think they will be better off. In fact the civil rights movement of the late 60s didn't even demand union with the republic just equal rights for catholics. Although they got them and stormont was abolished republican leaders demanded union with the republic.

Most people in Ulster get along with each other OK. It is just a minority of hardline loyalists and republicans are causing the fighting. This divison of the people of Ulster has not benefited them at all. The only solution is not a sectarian one but one that will unite both catholics and protestants against the problems that they both face. The present peace deal is unstable because it maintains the sectarian divison.
