What are everyones views on the global warming agreement today?

I think its really ironic that america didnt join, seeing as they are the cause of the majority of the problems..

Interesting point. However this is a global issue and not one we can pin on the US. Although I am concerned that they don't support Kyoto, we cannot expect the 'developed' nations to implement the changes if the 'Third World' doesn't have to match the controls. We won't achieve anything that way.

Its worth mentioning, whilst we feel smug, that although we harrass the US to sign up to the agreement, NOT ONE european country has implemented anything agreed.

Global Warming? Obviously no one pays attention to history. It was about 280 years ago that london harbor froze over. It didn't do that for 300 years before that.

If you look at the cycle of the sun spots you will find a 7 year cycle, a 14 year cycle and a 300 year cycle. Guess what we are at the hottest point and we will see things getting colder sooner and faster. It feels a little cold today for a early September day

    Global warming my arse.

Anyone read in the papers this week about the scientists who are speculating that Britain will have the climate of Northern Canada in the near future.

Baldog, if you had read on you would have seen the irony, it is global warming that will cause Britain's temperature to cool. As the icecaps melt, the billions of gallons of cold, fresh water pouring into the Atlantic will stop or divert the gulfstream, the current that keeps Britain warm while other countries on the same lattitude (ie Canada) suffer freezing conditions. Europe is warm because of winds blowing across Africa and Eastern Europe, conitental wind being a lot warmer than oceanic.

Hehe now I feel like a penis.
I didnt read the full article. Im still not convinced about global warming. The earth has always run in cycles of heat and cold.

so your saying that in the near future that the earth will warm up so quickly that the icecaps melting will counteract the gulf stream? Wow, we did ride the little bus to school didn't we? (aka the retard bus)

BTW in case anyone did not realize, the reason that the oceans are rising is that we are constantly being bombarded with ice particles from space. Or do we only read the sky is falling articles from the Sceince Journals?

Your American, so I will forgive you for your obvious signs of stupidity. I did not say that the icecaps will melt quickly. I got my information from the a scientific study. From people who I admit are many times cleverer than me, and many millions of times cleverer than you. If you want to argue about my post, make your argument with a member or the scientific community. As for your "ice from space", if anything is stupid I would say that. Why exactly do these ice particles not vapourise in space??? Space is not cold thanks to a big orange ball we call the sun, or did your doctor forget to tell you that while he was wiping the spit and vomit from your bib?

OK without slinging to much mud at you. What is a comet made of? Ice, and yes Space is cold & hot, depends on how close you are to the sun. And I got my information from a Sceince Journal, Have you ever seen the August meteor storms? That is the high point of these small meteors hitting our atmosphere depositing H2O and several other materials onto our planet. I'm not going to say I'm a expert on this subject, but I do read more articles than the headline 'the sky is falling' liberal press propaganda

The ice in comets is mainly gas, not water.

The ice on the icecaps is ALREADY melting, thus affecting the entire planets weather system (it is partly to blame for El Nino). If the gulfstream ceases then European waether will be colder, not hotter.

I'm no expert on this, don't profess to be, but even I know that global warming isn't a good thing. I also know that it doesn't mean the end of the world, but could affect human existence.

Anyone got a 3 million factor sunblock I can borrow?

As far as I'm aware global warming refers to an increase in the total available active energy within the biosphere, mainly due to an increase in the trapped energy from the sun. The effects of this are damn hard to predict (as is any effect that is planet wide) but the various studies have had differing results, from global freezing to global melting. My bet is a more "extreme" seasonal variation between summer/winter. Eventually this could trigger another Ice Age, which I think we're about due for anyway.

BBH, I'm interested in the ice particles thing. Can you quote the source?? Why do they not vapourise when they hit the atmosphere?? Where do they come from, space is fairly notorious for being empty (hence the name!!) even in our relatively crowded bit of system space. How do they keep appearing?? etc....

Lord of Little, sorry it was in Popular Sceince and the American Journal of Sceince about a year and a half ago. It does vaporize, but it is still water and adds to the total water level on the planet, most comes from comets and meteor showers that hit the earth every Augest. Not sure where they come from, maybe someone just doesn't like us <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">
