G8 Summit in Genoa

Yesterday one of the violent protesters was shot dead by one of the Italian paramilitary police.

While his death is regretable, he did bring it upon himself and I feel little sympathy for him or any of his ilk who get themselves injured or killed. The protesters who turned violent are very selfish and they completly destroyed any point that the other tens of thousands of peaceful protesters were trying to make. Take a look in your papers this morning and see just how many stories there are on Bob Geldof trying to get rid of 3rd world debt or any of the other hundreds of groups trying to get their message out...Thats right there are no stories on those things, just the shooting of this foolish violent thug.

Unfortunately we will never be able to get access to these summits while the likes of this guy keep turning violent and forcing the G8 leaders ever further behind their fortress walls. They are doing nothing but furthering the cause of the Globalists..

Just wondering what you guys thought of the whole thing?

You beat me to posting on this by a few minutes and a modem fault! <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

Aye, I was going to suggest that the dead guy brought it on himself. More to the point, the policeman who shot him was exercising his 'right to self-defence' that our American friends seem to hold so dear (the protester was trying to rearrange his face with a fire extinguisher, I seem to recall).

Bearing in mind my anti-globalisation opinions I find this very disturbing.

I agree that they violent protesters take the limelight away from the real issues.

It was, however, obvious that something akin to this was going to happen. This has been publicised by the media as 'The Battle of Genoa' for months (even b4 Gothenberg) and that worries me. Do you think that this just attracts the moronic element?

Putting up a 13ft wall of steel just gives them a high profile target.

Well I think that anything that is host to people as powerful as the G8 leaders is always going to attract a lot of attention.

There will always be arseholes who go round looking for fights...eg, the recent race riots up north, football hooligans etc. Theres also nothing we can do about it other than condemn them and not be bothered when one of them gets his head blown off while trying to murder police officers.

It was good to see those animals on TV not even getting close to breaching the red zone walls. I just feel sorry for the everyday citizens of Genoa having their homes, businesses and cars burnt in the name of anti-globalism.

I also feel sorry for the 25,000 or so (Genoa Local Council Figures) who were forced to moved out of their homes by the Italian Govt whilst this is being hosted.

I feel for the thousands of taxpayers who have to pay for it and the millions in the world who will be adversely affected by the 'decisions' made at this circus.

and the millions in the world who will be adversely affected by the 'decisions' made at this circus.

The whole problem is that since everything went violent the G8 leaders went behind closed doors and now we will never hear what goes on.

You say people are adversely affected but they arent all bad at G8. Without the meeting, the whole aids funding thing in Africa wouldnt have been setup. The new African Union would be unable to be setup with cash from the G8...They arent just the sinister NWO guys planning to take over the world.

    brought it upon himself

but perhaps there are better measures than actual live rounds? knock out gas? anaesthetistic weapons?

Playing with fire will ultimately see you burnt <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/ukliam2.gif">

    MasterDevilish,

The Italian authorities were using water cannon, tear gas, rubber bullets etc to contain the rioters. However the policeman in question was in the back of a landrover with several other officers. The landrover was surrounded by dozens of rioters intent on mayhem and blood. He needed to put that guy out of action within a split-second, knock out gas nor a tranquiliser can give the stopping power of the police officers sidearm.

I would be the first to condemn them if the police had fired upon the protesters with live rounds from a distance and while under no immediate threat. This cop was fearing for his life and reacted appropriately.

i saw this on the news earlier, its a shame that whatever was said isnt getting half as much publicity as this guy who did bring it on himself with unnecessary violence.

one small question... what does "G8" actually mean?

    group of eight.

the next G8 summit is to be held in canada. the canadian president has already said that they will return to the spirit of the conference - an informal gathering of world leaders thhat allows them to coordinate policies aimed at economic growth (and something else).

thus the next conference will be held in a tiny town in the rockies, with a total of 350 hotel beds. security will be easier because of the geography of the place, and organisers are considering limiting each country to 35 delegates.

maybe they're learning people. we can but hope.

Good idea, afterall many turned up with an entourage of over 100 people, with the Japanese and US delegations sending over 500 people.

Out of interest the UK sent 27!
