You're brilliant!!! I love you already!!!! lol.

Yeah, I'll stick with either Flower of Scotland, or Scotland the Brave as my national anthem.

And yes, I do have Flower of Scotland on my computer, and I listen to it regularly.

There is nothing more amusing than seeing a bunch of middle aged drunken men, wearing skirts singing about flowers and trying to be patriotic about it

I think, the only possible alternative to the national anthem would be the Imperiam Death march from Star wars. Well, if we become a colonial superpower anyway

Such a succinct generalisation of the entire Scottish nation! How does he do it....?

It's better than seeing a bunch of greedy land usurpurs chasing foxes with a poker up their backsides singing about old ladies.......

Have you ever been to a real Scottish piping competition? Standing in the midst of 200 pipers, all dressed in kilts, is one of the most moving* feelings I have ever experience.

The Scottish National Anthem is a real anthem. It's real motivational stuff. It stirs the heart of every Scot, and inspires us to fight for the independence we deserve so much.

"Oh flower o' Scotland
When will we see
Yer like again
That fought and died for
Yer wee bit hill and Glen
And stood against them -
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.

The hills are bare now
and autumn leaves lie thick and still.
For land that is lost now
Is oh so dearly held
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.

Those days are past now
And in the past
They must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against them
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.

The hills are bare now,
and autumn leaves lie thick and still
For land that is lost now
Is oh so dearly held.
Oh flower o' Scotland
When will we see
Yer like again
That fought and died for
Yer wee bit hill and Glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again"

*I want to say arousing, but that would sound as if I am turned on by pipe music.

Trust me, those 'skirts' have a certain sex appeal about them.

Unfortunately I have to agree that the Scottish National Anthem is better in the sense that most people are proud to sing it ... which of course has nothing to do with those quality lines:
'And stood against them
AGAINST WHO
Proud Edward's Army
WANKERS'
Really though, people in Scotland are still proud to stand up and sing their National Anthem which is something that a lot of English people are less proud to do. A large amount of the population are not happy with the monarchy (despite not being able to offer a decent alternative) and so for this reason something like 'Land of Hope and Glory' would possibly be more appropriate!

What do you mean "if"? We bloody well were 50 years ago!

Interesting point, God Save The Queen is the British anthem but it is sung by English sports teams. I don't think this is fair on the rest of the UK. There should be a purely English anthem for sports events where England itself is playing and God Save the Queen would be reserved for British events. For instance, God Save the Queen would be sung by the British Olymic team.

ROFLMAO..

Just how much fighting for independance have you done at 16 years old?

Its just a shame the majority of your countrymen dont want independance..Id be more than happy to give it to you lot if you wanted.....See how well Scotland gets along on its own.

At least we would be rid of the constant moaning and whining.

A lot more than most Scots have done in their lifetimes.

Unfortunately, more English people want Scottish independance than Scots do...Which means its unlikely it will ever happen

Probably something to do with the economic divide, and the differential status of the countries. I mean, if Scotland seceded tomorrow, then the Schengen border would be applicable. Scotland would take ages to join the EU, if ever, and the economy would free fall while it was outside the trade zone of the Union.

Secede. We dare you.

While you're at it take the Welsh with you. They moan about independance even more than you lot. You can make your own little United Kingdom. Whatever happens, England will still be top dog

I dont know about the rest of you, but I feel as much a part of the United kingdom as I do Scotland. I feel just as proud of the achievements of Welshmen, Irish and English as I do Scots.

That said our anthem is slightly more rousing

Something to do with hundreds of years of oppression and domination, perhaps?

I would take a hint from yours, but it's not applicable, if I could work it out. I can't really say much to that.

Apart from .

It's from the film 'Congo', which I had the misfortune of watching one weeknight. Not quite sure what it means either, although I wouldn't mind witnessing it...

You know why the Scots Guards are so feared? Because when the enemy hear them coming - preceeded by the pipes - they think "Fucking hell, if they do that to their pets, what do you think they'll do to us"

When you are stirred and ready to fight for your independence again, remember what happened after the Army had thought again.

Somehow you guys always miss the ending of the whole story...who is it you want independence from?

I love a patriotic song which suggests a defeated army but forgets to add that "actually they eventually came back a really trounced our arses into the dirt..."

I would have to agree with you guys. You need to take at least one lesson from the US...our national anthem is about our Country, not our President. We have a song for when he appears, *Hail to the Chief*, but its not our national anthem. The whole point to a national anthem is to celebrate the country you are living in and the pride and love you have for it, not who runs it.

We too have a song for our leader - "Hail to the Cheftain, Highland Laddie" I think it's called. It's played at Highland Games to the Cheftain by the Massed Bands during the Prize Giving at the end.
