Me too. The entirity of I'm Your Fan is great, especially Stories of the Street and Tower of Song.

I don't think that any cover is better than the Leonard Cohen original, but they always make for wonderful listening. I really like Joan Baez's version of Suzanne.

Limp Bizkit's version of Faith by George Michael is better works as a rock track

Also as I mentioned on the other thread the best cover is probably Jimi Hendrix's version of All along the watch tower.

Children of Bodoms cover of Oops! I Did It Again totally wanks and spunks over Britneys version.

Credence Clearwater Revival - I Put a Spell On You (love Nina Simone on this too)
Me First & the Gimme Gimmes - Wild World, Walk Like an Egyptian, The Longest Time
Johnny Cash - One, The Beast in Me, Hurt
    Jeff Buckley - Lilac Wine
Radiohead - Nobody Does it Better

    All of the above! :thumb:

I've got a soft spot for Joe Strummer's Redemption Song too

I don't think Tainted Love by MM was better than the original, but hey ho. Sweet Dreams, though , and Personal Jesus.

    Gary Jules - Mad World
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (although Leonard Cohen's is fucking good, too)
    AAF - Smooth Criminal
    Johnny Cash - Hurt

Basically a whole load of the ones that have already been mentioned.

Although, new one: Jamie Cullum - Frontin'. Ohyes. Also - the Gov't Mule live cover of Wish You Were Here. God yes.

I think personal jesus was originally johnny cash, and then depeche mode, and then MM.
I like the depeche mode version best. I also prefer the soft cell original of tainted love, but i still  the marilyn manson version nearly as much.
His version of sweet dreams is still the best though, even though i love the original too.

my best EVAR cover version has to be Ozzy Osbourne and Dweezil Zappas version of the beegees "stayin alive"

That reminded me that my fave version of Personal Jesus is Johnny Cash's, for sure.

Rasputina do a great version of Wish You Were Here, and the definitive version (imo) of MM's Tourniquet.

I can't believe I forgot Tori's version of Smells Like Teen Spirit, it's a completely different song. Glorious.

I forgot Warren Haynes' version of One. Just having his voice and guitar adds a lot of depth.

Songs that worked well as covers:

Happy Mondays - Step On (although I do prefer the original)
All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix (though I preferred Dylan's)
With a Little Help from my Friends - Joe Cocker
Brown Eyed Girl, Take On Me - RBF
Whiskey in the Jar - Metallica

The best cover I have heard is Jimmy Eat World's cover of Firestarter, for the War Child album. It is wonderful, turning that song into a very very dark ballad, it's a stroke of genuis. I love it, but you'll either love it or hate it.

    What!!

I'm a fan of Thin Lizzy, but Metallica did a superb cover of Whiskey in the jar. Feels much more crisp and punchy than the original, but I guess it is quite a lot newer... the original is 30 years old!

Gary Moore is still a god though.

The original Whiskey in the Jar!? It's about three centuries old! :p;)

I'm sad that I forgot Emmylou Harris's version of Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend, as it rocks.
