  They have been used in peacekeeping missions! Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from British submarines during the conflict in Kosovo. Nuclear weapons are a different matter entirely.

  Maybe that was a hasty example (I was kind of thinking of nuclear weapons but I know that is not why they are called nuclear subs) What you have got to think of is why would Blair cut the MoD budget to a level where they are unable to susutain the operations Blair is commiting us to?
  
  To me that wouldn't make sense hence I assume that the budget is at an appropriate level........
