I used to play deep house, tech-house, Detroit techno and breaks at warehouse parties in Birmingham. These days I occasionally DJ at a night in Brixton playing anything that takes my fancy from soul, funk, hip hop and reggae to punk, post-punk, indie and industrial.

We used to have one excellent DJ using the boards. He was called Justin Sane, he was Australian, played hard house. He did a lot of work for the Tidy Trax label. I haven't heard anything from him here since 2004. He used to put up mixes occasionally for us to download.

And no, I'm not a DJ myself. Though I'd like to be. House is my repartee.

I started on Hard House, but quickly switch to acid techno and more underground sound. Not fan of the Tidy Trax label at all, hate hard house really.

But I always tend to like more underground and dirty music.

My favorite label is Brain Recordings... Too bad they have stop tho...

Playing myself, haven't play in month tho.

Mainly Acid Techno, Hardcore, french tribe and sometimes Techno.

But if you want to go and learn, go for it, it's great fun and good for the stress :thumb:

Most dance labels from back in the day have gone to the wall, or been bought up by bigger labels. If you haven't got the support of a good record label now, or one of the huge conglomerates, (Virgin, EMI, Universal etc...) you may as well not bother.
    Playing myself...
You didn't need to tell us that... :p

Yep it's crap, also you still have underground tribe labels which are good.

Less easy to find tho. Easy to get in France if you do free parties in the
south, they often have stand where you can buy tunes which is quite cool.

Independent record labels need to be stronger than ever these days to compete against the big groups. In a sense, they're driving standards up, but the big groups all too often are keen to release these rubbish cover versions, (as mentioned in another thread) thus pushing standards down again.

French house music has a fairly good history. I remember Superfunk years ago, also Daft Punk, and now David Guetta. All signed to Virgin Records France if I remember...

    :(

Used to play acid techno (SUF, Routemaster, Smitten etc). Got bored of it really quickly. We used to have the Liberators, Lawrie Immersion, Gizelle etc play at our parties all the time though back in the mid to late 90's.

Hehe... my interest for techno music also slow down considerably when I stop using chemicals...
Wouldn't mind give it a go once in a while tho...

I still love techno, but of the "proper" Detroit variety - UR, Red Planet, Octave One, Model 500, Paperclip People, Plastikman etc.

I don't really do much now, most of my time goes into producing DnB. When I do mix then it's DnB & Prog House/Trance.
