any form of government that seeks to change the world is extreme.

As compared to the standard political form in the western world then, YES

(though there are a huge number of interpretations of communism and probably every individual has a slightly different view.)

surely every govt tries to change the world, every government I have ever heard of has introduced new legislation and has taken part in international affairs

yes, but other governments are democratic. Communism is not a democratic form of government, not in practice anyway.
Ideally the people vote for ALL the people who run things. In reality the people have little or no say. Take Russia and China for example.
And before Stealgate spouts off how they aren't communist countries, Russia and China are/were perfect examples of why communism will never work in a modern day society.

Yes

Surely fascism is far worse.

Openly hating a group because of their ethnicity, sexuality etc I deam to be far worse than anything Marx ever purported....

Stalin and Chairman Mao have killed far more people than Hitler ever did.
Just because they had different beliefs. Stalin reportedly hated the jews just as much as Hitler.

But this is not a fundamental part of Communism, that is the personalities of individuals. Hatred of others is fundamental to fascism which makes it worse.

Yes (of course)

Yes

Yes, but I would not neccersarily consider extremism (if thats a word ) to be a bad thing.

Well said Mindless, we must be ready to challenge the political consensus and not conform to the 'average' that is expected.

This is the fundamental flaw of communism. It is far too idealistic.
People will ALWAYS crave power. Anybody here, if given half a chance would want to be in charge of something, I know I would.
The personalities of individuals is why communism will never work, because there will always be an INDIVIDUAL running everything behind the scenes.
Stalin hated everybody, he just never had the chance to kill them all. It's well known he had a deep seated hatred of Germans as well as Jews. Given half a chance he would have slaughtered the population of East Germany.

I agree with Whowhere.

As I have argued with, and told so many people: Communism can NEVER work in real society.

People are equal in being poor, while the leaders who "crave" for equality dont have any problem running about in their nice houses looking out on their poor "brothers" and actually not being that "equal" with them.

"everyone is equal, just some are more equal than others"

I think Mr Orwell sums it up best.

You may not believe me, but I really don't crave power. I just wish to be left to live my life, and to be able to enjoy myself.
