So, the Electoral Commission's being called in by the government. Why? Apparently, it's to "probe" them about why turnout at elections is so low, and why nobody trusts the democratic process any more.
Well, let me save them the time and money, and give them some answers. I suggest it is because, as a Government, you are a bunch of lying little cunts. You lied to get us into a war with Iraq. You took the most serious decision a country has to make, and lied to get us into a grubby little war. You've dragged us kicking and screaming into the war on terrorism. You've made the country a more dangerous place. You've failed to deliver on your promises on education, the NHS, transport or on the welfare state. You're all liars, every single one of you.
As for you Tories, here's some words. You deliberately conceited with this government in the lies they told to get us into Iraq. Your leader has got no political principles or policies whatsoever. You have no radical ideas. You offer exactly the same as this government does. LibDems? You're just a third party. You barely register when it comes to making policy. You're all too busy fighting amongst yourselves on who'll be the next leader.
And as for the Electoral Commission themselves, you did nothing to stop ministers from giving us an utterly useless and fraud-riddled postal voting system. You refuse to propose any reform of a system where Tories got more votes than Labour at the 2005 General Election, yet Labour still romps home with a majority. You, quite simply, haven't got the teeth or the backbone to do anything about it.
OK, rant over. Anyone want to add something, or do you disagree with me?

As such, they bear little interest in politics, more concerned with Eastenders or Big Celebrity get me out of here or whatever.
Sad state we're in, it's nearly too late too.
I say down with Democracy!
everyone knows!
if the government are asking ...they are looking to see how soft we are.
they are turning the screws so a little bit of market research will obviously pinpoint where the next shackle will best go.
Except isn't Leeds city council a Lib-Tory coalition - so sometimes Labour doesn't win.
I agree completely, if I don't laugh I'll cry.
I always vote, even though it's a case of voting for the best of a truly terrible bunch. If I didn't exercise my right to vote, I wouldn't have the brass neck to debate, discuss and complain about political issues.
I vote to get these buggers out, and hopefully someone decent in.
Not that any of them are decent (they're all politicians), but I'm sick to fucking death of the current ones and this "rule by fear of terrorism" bollocks.
As soon as I get some money, I'm out of this scummy fucking labour area anyway.
they are already ...thinking ...abiut how THEY deal with it.
live with it ...use it.
it could be a very tong political weapon against all western democracies but ...a very two edged weapon/
It's essentially a big "fuck you" to the men and women who fought for emancipation. moroccan roll you make an excellent point, though...what they battled tooth and nail for was democracy and the right to vote, not the compulsion.
the spoilt paper party could maybe overtake the raving loons.
it's worth thinking about ...
there realy are more and more people though ...who are defiantly standing down from what they see as a farce.
But having said that a few of them are decent, I like Mark Oaten, but it seems being a sexual deviant is a bar to high office for Lib Dems, it worked well for the Tories for years.
I don't think either of the three major parties are true to what they are supposed to be. The Green partyI have a soft spot for but they won't get enough votes... RESPECT personally I wouldn't trust as they're basically the SWP trying to get Muslim and environmentalist votes (Mr Galloway a true socialist... won't accept a working man's wage to do his job... tut).
It's sad really...
Please the council here was supposedly going to be a Tory bastion, but Lib-Dems and weak Torries have left it nothing but a gutless and very corrupt council. Ergo...Labour win again through its opponents failures.
Also, if i'd voted for any MP that turned out to be in favour of the Iraq war then there's blood on my hands too. I'm not prepared to have that on my conscience.
You're making the assumption that people don't vote because they don't feel it'll make a difference. I think a lot of people don't vote because they don't like putting their name against the least deceitful piece of shit standing.
The whole "if you don't vote you don't have a right to complain" stance is cod shit as far as I’m concerned. It's a simplistic view that is used to consistently validate the atrocities being committed in our names. If you fundamentally disagree with the way the system works or don’t feel that anyone is sufficiently representative of your views then why the fuck should you put you name against them?
Been on the Sherry tonight Rolly?
2) Unless you live in around one of a hundred seats, it doesn't matter how you vote, the usual candidate is going to be returned.
That said, I have attended all but one poll since I was old enough to vote (I missed a local election due to an "emergency" at work")
