Heavy periods

Hi, posting this on behalf of my sister (yes really..) she suffers from really heavy periods and has decided to go to the doctors this week, she's having a stress as shes read (alot of sites say this) that you have to have an internal examination, is this always the case? Has anyone experienced this (heavy periods) and have been to a dr? Shes a virgin so the thought of having an internal examination is causing her worry. Thanks anyone for any replies :)

    How old is your sister?

They try and avoid having to do internals on people under 18... especially virgins. I've got lots of gynae problems and havn't had one. (well that's sort of not true... I've had two but both during operations so I wasn't awake for them).
If she explains to the doctor that she's worried about this I'm sure they'll be very understanding, and if it can't be avoided will be extra sensitive about it all.
