It was only a matter of time...

Let's all sue

Sad to see the lawsuit-itis is still prevalent in the US...a cancer on society.

Of course, you can't blame the terrorists becuase you can't sue a deadman.

    That is very sad.

Is there a film to be made about 11-09?
It would educate younger people about that day.

Do you think a film about it would be a good/bad idea?

As long as it isn't too extreme...

This whole compensation culture really disgusts me. How can their be any financial means to relieve an individual from the pain of losing a loved one?

It's even worse to claim that a death is a financial loss to a family because of lost income (I think). Surely the human element of a death overrides any other loss.

It's sick - especially here when they're suing the AIRLINE. I mean, why not sue the New York underground system for allowing all of those poor workers to arrive at work on time that morning.

I can understand that everyone needs to blame something, but this is just bizarre.

I hate people who claim compensation with the excuse "it's the principal, not the money".
I hate the adverts on tv as well, "are you a victim of your own stupidity? Then come to us and we'll find someone to sue".

I really hope she loses the case, and I hope in future judges at these cases use some common sense and tell the claimant where to go.
I mean come on, it said so in the article, her husband had a "substantial life insurance policy"

Exactly. To be honest, I think American Airlines have suffered enough - aren't they on the brink of bankruptcy anyway? Airline firms across the world have stepped up security and paid billions in preventative measures against another security breach. Unfortunately in these unique scenarios, something like September 11th has to happen for these measures to be put in place.

I don't think I'm the most optimistic rosy-eyed person on the planet in saying that i don't think anyone could really have forseen the events of that day.

Who could even have imagined them?

In the country where the law is king and the courts cannot be wrong, everyone is bound by the blind idiocy of the first compensation ruling.

Hope she loses and has to pay costs. Teach her a lesson shed never forget.

Sadly, due to the principle in common law (like in US, England and wales, etc...) the previous decisions of the courts bind the future. So shell win. Its like the scum police who got damages after Hillsborough, even though it was their fault.

Or maybe that was the fault of the people who decided to put large crash barriers next to the pitch?
Or maybe we should sue the people who designed the goal posts?
Don't take it out on the police, they have to live with their mistake, and they have a hard enough job as it is.

There are qiute a few ways a judge can get around judicial precedence actually.

And yes, I think it is wrong, society has gone mad to the extent that kids are banned from playing at playtime for fear that parents may sue if they have an accident.

    Pathetic.

totally agree whowhere, i think some of the treatment of those on duty police officers after hillsborough was a disgrace - yes they made a mistake, but in that situation it was difficult not to, nobody ever points the finger at the hundreds of drunken fans who turned up without a ticket and pushed their way to the turnstiles, people were getting crushed at that point regardless

a shocking incident for all concerned a true accident for which nobody should be accountable, same goes for sept 11th with the obvious difference the blame should be placed firmly at the door of terrorism and airport security.

And in the USA someone would sue, just for the hell of it.

I'm aware of that principle -- and I think that it is wrong. By all means, let the past be a guide to one's actions. However, only a f*cking idiot lets himself be bound by the past.

Sorry, but having re-read this I couldn't resist:

"Lawsuits... are a disease... a cancer of this planet... and we... are the cure."

    They shouldn't make one yet, maybe in a decade's time or more...although I hear they're planning/making one.

All younger people already know what happenned that day and don't need a Hollywood movie to glamourise it to teach them. Nobody could claim they were making it for educational purposes, that's just idiotic.

Anyway, judging by Hollywoods usual war film standards they'll totally change the storyline and still claim it as a true story.
    Fucking pish.
