My criminal masterplan

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Its completely ethical, based on conning criminals/conmen. Say, if someone was selling a copied CD on ebay, you bought it, you knew it was copied, then demanded a refund and said you werent going to send the CD back. You get a free CD, and they either refund you or you tell ebay / the police?

I'll then just stash it away never to see it agani. Same could be done with anything dodgy I reckon, for tonnes of free stuff. Might have a go at some point and see what happens.

- Or even better, buy a version of photoshop, then when its not real, demand a real version as thats what you agreed to buy, then if they send you a real one, sell it on amazon or something yourself for a garunteed markup :D

Surely, that would only work if they had said on the auction that it was an original CD - and then you received a copy.

Sounds like you have too much time on your hands Shyboy.

Looky there. Now, its pretty illegal to sell unlicenced software. They say they're selling it with a key, obviously from a keygen. Since its so ludicrously non-legal, then when you say its not a legal copy you want your money back or you report them to ebay (in the most casual way possible) they cant refuse! Its not blackmail, its consumer rights :D im a genius!

And yes I have too much time on my hands. By moneyspinning Ive got an offer to get a bike thats worth £800 for £400, by buying it off a guy at dealer prices because the dealer didnt want it, but he says he'll be the middleman for me and is just a nice guy so he wont take any money / commision. However, think its too far away so I wont bother :p

Not once there does it use the words 'official', 'authentic' or 'genuine'. And that's what they'll use as a comeback if you report them.

Hardly worth your time and effort, to be honest.

It doesnt matter if they're selling unlicenced (hence illegal) CDs. Its against the rules. Their feedback has members saying theyve received illegal copies already, so I doubt he (or she) wants the back feedback. And once your banned off ebay, you're banned for life. My mate got banned :p and hes tried to sign up several times with different names, credit cards, and the like but ebay knows its him every time!

And its not that im actually trying to scam them (although thats what the rest of the thread implies), im just wondering if I would get away with it. I dont actually want photoshop :p

No, i think ive seen it before though. Is it a film with john travolta in? I was actually thinking when i was typing it, it did sound a bit inspired by the TV series "Hustle". At the mo Im just really keen on working out ways to get / keep money, recently realising how much money we all waste!!

Nah, it's Mel Gibson. Watched it a few months ago and thought the mind games might've been the inspiration...

Try www.totse.com for ideas. A lot of them are dodgy, but there are some legitimate monetary ploys on there if i remember correctly.

Thats who I meant :p Im not great with names hehe.

Wil check that site out, so far just been looking at www.moneysavingexpert.co.uk, which doesn't really have scams on there apart from the few tip offs (like earn £1 gift coupons for buying things that cost less than £1!)

    Woo for totse!

If this works, WOO! Good scheme.

surely a refund means you have to give back what you bought as well, correct? so i hate to say it but the plan therefor is faulty.

theres the subtlety though - dont send it back. again, i dont know the scheme will work or not so i'll just have to see
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Bit of a downside to your plan.. Whoever sends the CD will have your address and if it was me you'd ripped off/threatened, i'd be pretty pissed off!

It's a good way to get people to think you're a bastard, that's for sure.

crime was so much easier before computor power arrived ...i mean ...it must almost be friggin impossible to nick yourself a chicken from the supermarket these days.

in the seventies before the banks were linked ...
open a business account with a grand ...over three months add money on a regular basis and then hit the bank for loans and overdraft facilities.
you then move around four or five grand to the next bank round the corner for your new bizz account.
you do the same again and again ...you ended up withacounts all over the place.
the ones who got in trouble for it are the ones who used false names.
using your correct name and adress meant you were breaking no laws ...so no police could come after you ...after three years of dodging them the debt would be wiped out.
you got to spend twenty five thiry grand of someonelses money.
it was so easy back then.

I'm pretty sure all someone needs to do is ask the post office who's box it is and they're legally obliged to disclose the info.

You could use PayPal for ebay?
