I just hope he does not get trapped on a sand bank, fingers cross they will be able to return him back to where he belongs.

thats a dolphin isnt it? judging by the size and shape of its fin.

Bottle nosed whale apparently, I thought it was a dolphin when I read that. It weighs about 7 tonnes though, so it would be a very heavy dolphin!

I thought that when I saw the picture, but they keep calling it a whale.

i guess a dolphin is technically a small type of whale so theyre not entirely wrong, its just people generally do differentiate between dolphins, porpoises and whales when they talk about them.
id bet thats a dolphin though.

well they did say it was 'bottle nosed'
bless it....hope they get it out ok

That's a shame. We had a whale in the Forth before but after a few attempts to get it to the ocean it beached itself and died. Apparantly the noise of the trains and the traffic on the bridges scared it.

The Thames is quite wide though, don't knwo how deep it is but the whale should have a chance, right?

Last time I heard they had captured it and were transporting it (by barge) to safer waters.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Found an article about it in the Swedish newspaper today.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
could it be the starship enterprise crew getting it wrong?

You just watch, Chris Martin will organise a charity single in aid of Wally the whale who will become a celebrity in his own right. Soon he'll release his own single (whale 'music' of course, played over a Fatboy Slim-remixed dance inststrumental) and will take his place on next year's Celebrity Big Brother before disappearing back in to obscurity, before popping back up 5 years down the line (pardon the pun) in a undercover drugs bust.

I doubt that'll happen but it would be funny if it did.

Yeh a whale in a river is a bit rare but why is it top story in the news. Does anyone really care about this thing?
