May 2nd Voting : An alternative to apathy?

Did anyone see the Green Party's political broadcast last Friday night? I though it was very artistically and thought provokingly done.

It made me wonder why we only seem to consider Labour, the Conservatives or the Lib Dems as the only credible parties worth voting for. If young voters do not vote because they are disinterested in the three major parties because they seem to achieve nothing and bicker amongst themselves all the time, why not try and get the Greens to a state in this country where they would be a strong enough force to help keep the other parties in check and give them a run for their money too? At least they seem to actually believe in their policies (which include free NHS care, free education etc) but also want to try and save the environment too.

It's time we told the three main parties that they are not neccessarily the ONLY alternatives in this country.

I didn't see that broadcast, but I have seen the tory one.

I'm going to the count in Liverpool (as a conservative future member). I have been helping with leafletting in Woolton, where the conservative party has been working its ass off to get the ward back in tory hands.

I heard a funny story relating to that. Gareth Anderson, our candidate in Ledsham, was canvassing. One constituent said he was a Labour voter, always had been yadda yadda yadda. Gareth asks "Are you happy with your council housing?" The constituent replied "no", and yet he was still determined to vote for the party responsible. Barmy!

Yes, but the Lib Dems don't have a good record for local government.

The Lib Dems have a strategy of working hard to get into local government then getting MPs in the areas where they control the councils. They are like a disease, spreading over the country.

That's not barmy at all, if he is of the opinion that he would be in even worse conditions under the Tories or Lib Dems. Just because you feel a party is failing in one particular policy area, you shouldn't let that hijack your vote. You should vote for the party that you feel most agrees with your views.
