My girlfriend works in asda. she has been working on checkouts for the past 7 months. in the last week all under 18's have been moved off of checkouts. Most of them have been moved to different Departments (eg george, home and leasure). My gf has been told she HAS to work 5-10 tuesday 5-10 friday 5-10 saturday at the bakery. her contract hours were 3-7 sat and 12-8 sunday. They have told her that if she didnt take the hours for the bakers then they will pay her off!

Is this legal?
Can anything be done for them not to pay her off?

She's not really worked there long enough for her to have much comeback. ACAS is probably your best bet, if anything.

Her contract hours probably aren't much to use to them and they'll expect her to take on all the extra work for the sake of keeping her job.

Although the hours on her contract are as they are, they can still expect her to work other times, without administering a new contract...it is all down to the last clause in the cntract which says something along the lines of "and any other particulars required byy the management"

Basically they can get you to do most thigs (within reason)...asking her to change her hours, fair? No....Illegal? Probably not! Afraid if she wants to keep her job she just needs to go with the flow :yeees:

Are they taking all under 18's off the checkout through fear of prosecution, in case they unlawfully sell alcohol, without the acknowledgement of someone over 18? :chin:
