Is Blair corrupt?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Two recent scandals, the Enron affair and the Mittal incident have raised questions about the integrity of Blair and New Labour

Do you think that he or is party are corrupt?

And what would you think is the best way to fund political parties?

    Hell yes! New Labour have been involved in more sleaze than the last Tory government were.

    It looks pretty bad doesn't it but in the grand tradition a survey has suggested that New Labours ratings have gone UP since these two scandals broke.

    Both him and his entire party are totally corrupt. Unfortunately thats nothing new in British politics. The Tories were just as bad, the only difference being Labour are so fucking inept that they get caught so often.

    What would be the best way to fund political parties though?

    I personally think that business should not be involved.

    Maybe an equal grant to all political parties from the govt funds or should it be in some way relevant to the number of people that vote for that party or even better for the number of constituencies the party stands in

    I definately think big business should be barred from funding political parties..Unless everything is totally out in the open and theres an independant body which will monitor the whole situation.

    God no...We'd have no chance of getting rid of B.liar then. I can just see him rubbing his hands in glee when hes worked out the tories get 15 pence compared to Labours 15 billion squid.

    OK that would be silly but how about each party getting x amount per constituency from the treasury.

    This would mean that smaller parties would be able to compete at a local level with the big boys

    That still favours the guys in charge though.

    Maybe every party gets a certain set amount of cash regardless of their size or support. They supplement this fund with donations from the public and their party members..Public meaning individuals who arent CEOs or managing directors of major industries etc. All donations should be documented and checked out.

    I think this is a sensible idea. Elections shouldn't be fought like advertising campaigns. I think door knocking is an important part of party politics. If the publicity budget for each party is set by the Treasury (or even better, an independent body), there will be no need for big business sponsorship, which is ultimately detrimental for democractic government.

    Donations by individual members should also be allowed, both in terms of time and money - but all donations of, say, £1000 or more should be recorded and made publicly available.

    I think giving all political parties a set amount "regardless of size or support" is a bad idea. I'd register my own party if it worked like that!

    Does anyone really believe that people who give large sum donations aren't expecting something in return - from whatever party?

    This week it is the 'Steelgate' scandal, before that we had Formula One and before that we had Polly Peck (Tories this time)...

    ~~~~~~
    P.S. At least we know what happened to Steelgate now, thought we hadn't seen him here for a while...
    No, have a root round and find out how many gays there are in positions of power in the Labour party or have been in positions of power.
    Your starters; nick brown, jack straw (who's brother keeps getting nicked for indecent assault), Chris Bryant,Chris Smith,Michael Cashman (MEP), Mandy and Ron Davies , look for the rest yourself.
    But who cares about our politicians sexuality are you suggesting this is a bad thing and if so WHY?
    And what precisely is wrong with sexuality equality? Gay isnt a term of abuse unless youre 6, you know. And it isnt a sin to be gay.
    Is it any wonder why I have such a problem with organised religion?
    Anyway, B.Liar is as bent as a nine-bob note, hes as corrupt as Mugabe. I still wish a painful death on him- the worst thing that ever happened to British politics was the death of John Smith, who was a decent, good man who would have made an excellent PM (Labour would have got in in 1997 even with my pet rabbit in charge).
    What has his brothers' incompetance got to do with his ability to be a minister?
    With over 650 people in Parliament there are obviously going to be a fair few gays by law of average.
    This thread was asking if blair/labour are corrupt...are you making a direct like between homosexuality and corruption?
    Unless you can provide any evidence to support this claim you should keep your comments to yourself. You show only your ignorance.
