theres no way im going into rehab for drug treatment, i've got a life, a girl and college, i cant leave it all behind and go into care for a few months (whichs costs £600 a week).

these cocaine anon meetings r bollox social shite.

I want fuckin free prescription, not costly care centres for a few months. u cant get prescription detox for crack, if i go to the doc ill get taken away from my life and i cant fuckin afford it either.

i can get methadone from the docs on prescription for free and i can carry on with my life too.

i cant beat crack without going into care (no fuckin way) but i can beat heroin, does it not make sense!!!
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

Maybe you didnt know this harry but guess what

is one of the biggest factors of a crack addiction,

its always denial when u first get addicted to anything, but when u realise its a problem u can be truthful e.g. dannielle westbrook, shes very honest about her troubles in her "i hope ive put kids off drugs" campaingn.

i still deny it to my friends and i dont want their help but on here i can be truthful and im desperate to stop.

theres a difference between real life and the internet BTW, i prob am in denial regarding my friends.

and im going to be off 4 the next few days i expect cos im going to have one last try.

Right firstly Danniella Westbrook (in my oppinion) can shut it with her camapin. Id never listen to anyone who looses her septum and then prommises to come off in order to get a free nose job but then gets tested and it comes up positive!! She is still taking drugs so how can she expect any child to listen to her. Also she will have a baby born on drugs if she dont stop coz she is pregnant again so so much for keeping kids off drugs!!!!
That was a bit off the point I was goin to make but I thought Id say it anyway <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">. Right harry, I just gotta say that Ive been more than sympathetic with u on this crack stuff but I just dont no how much more I can handle. While I dont wanna c u ruining your life I really cant bare to hear u one minute make out like u r gonna sort it out and the next tell us all about u getting high again!!! I have no more advice to give u harry other than do what u want coz u blatently r gonna do it anyway...ie get on heroin (like thats really sensable when u wanna get clean, but anyway!). Also Id rather not receive messeges like this...

im going back on heroin, it doesn't affect u mentally so i wont bite anyones head off, and i can get help for it, unlike crack which can only be beaten cold_T

Do u really think I wanna hear that u r going back on heroin...no thanx harry!

OK, so Harry's idea sounds really stupid, but I actually understand where he's coming from. I have this totally unscientific theory I call "addict logic". When you are hooked on something, rational though goes out the window and is replaced by desperation and a loss of hope. Despite the addiction, most addicts want to quit, but still love the drug and are horrified at the thought of losing it. So the mind begins to play tricks on you and you are able to convince yourself that silly and dangerous ideas make perfect sense.

In Harry's case, he is totally convinced that the only way to get off crack is to start on heroin. I can sympathize completely, because I remember 5 years ago being desperate to give up heroin and thought the best way to do it would be to use coke. Believe it or not, this made perfect sense to me and I could explain it logically to anyone...even convince others it was a good idea. Needless to say, it didn't do anything but get me hooked to 2 drugs, and in retrospect it makes me totally embarrassed.

Other examples of "addict logic" would be things like an alcoholic thinking it would be OK to have a beer because it's not as bad as hard liquor, or the typical "I could quit anytime I wanted" refrain we hear so often. It all sounds pathetic to people who don't understand, but believe me when I tell you it makes perfect sense to the addict.

Point is, I don't know Harry well enough to know if he's screwing around to annoy people or if he's serious. The thing I do know is that if he's serious, there is little point in getting angry with him because he is truly convinced of the logic behind his plan.

Actually, I have a few questions for you Harry. And maybe some advice too.

I know you've done heroin before, but how bad an addiction was it? Surely you remember that heroin withdrawl is horrific, painful and debilitating. Do you want that again?

Have you ever been on methadone before? Yeah, it prevents heroin withdrawl, but being on a methadone program (at least in Canada) is no fun at all. Everyday you'll have to pick up your prescription at a pharmacy. You can't travel until they give you "take-aways" which takes at least a year here. And worst of all, methadone withdrawl is way worse than heroin withdrawl!

And what problems are you having with the coke withdrawl? Normally it's not bad and only lasts for a few hours, even for heavy users like I was. You have compulsive cravings, depression and you sleep for days. Not painful at all, just annoying and mildly uncomfortable.

I agree that quitting coke is in some ways tougher than heroin, but it's only in the short term. If you don't feel your can afford to go to a clinic (and you do have good reasons why it would be difficult), would you at least be able to take a week and go on holiday somewhere to clean up? Somewhere where the drug isn't easily available.

Last point I want to make...while you do have responsibilities and circumstances that make is hard to go to a clinic, if you let the proble get worse, you will lose those things too. Most people I know don't get to rehab until after they've lost their marriage, house, kids, life savings and social life. If you want to quit badly enough, you will find the resources to go now. Take the term off school, explain it to the girlfriend, borrow the money. This time through rehab I didn't want to wait until "rock bottom", and although it's been tough to leave work, lose friends and have to leave home for long periods of time, I managed to catch this before I lost everything.

Hope I'm not sounding preachy. I'm not judging you at all. I totally understand where you are at, and just want to give you some ideas.

I was only on it for 2 weeks (smoked), just got some from a mate to try out but went on holiday to jersey as soon as I started.

I've dabbled since but didn't get addicted.

Hmmm hate to disagree wiv u Burnout as u probably know farf more than me...

I did do Heroin enuff to say I was addicted n when I came off it was shitty for mayb 2 weeks real bad withdrawls.

With crack not coke u get the physical shit for shorter but the mental n psyco ones for longer than I did wiv heroin and found it loads more difficult to stay away from.

saying that tho i got more heavily into crack then I ever got wiv Heroin

Actually, I will agree with you on that point Daze. Heroin is very physically addictive, but I've found that coke has far worse psychological/emotional withdrawl symptoms, which are just as awful as physical symptoms. Coke gives you this horrible compulsion to use which is virtually imposible to fight.

Point is, the withdrawl from both drugs is horrible, so why go through them both?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
    lol... agreed.

no1 should ever start using either drug
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
cos, the crack withdrawals will be covered by heroin and the heroin withdrawals will be covered b medication.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
I wouldn't bother with getting heroin involved.
I've never been through a cocaine/crack or heroin addiction, but i've been through meth and oxy. Both are no fun. I think you would start speedballing all the time - you'd get hooked on both and be in even more trouble!
    - good luck with the quest man
