Yes, you are certainly mistaken in that thought:p

surely 6 + (half as many again) is

    6 plus (half of 6) ?

    not 6 + (half of 6) + 6

otherwise they would have writen "one and a half times as many again"

I really dont understand your logic :p

arghh, after all that i missed the end where they would've shown the answer :(

i'll just have to suffer :(

the prize would've been 650 quid when i last looked, plus the chance to get the jackpot of 3000 odd, which i would of course have shared with all you lovely people :flirt:

no, that is 6 + half as many
    not 6 + (half of 6) + 6

no, one and a half times as many again would be 15,
I really dont understand your logic :p
not logic, linguistics. the "again" means "an increase of"

    some examples:
A record number of just on 1.5 million voters - half as many again as in the 1995 election - went to the polls.
This year we are standing 985 candidates for District, Borough and Metropolitan
Borough Councils, half as many again as in the last directly comparable set

The Prime Minister said that half as many again first-time offenders were being jailed than before Labour came to power
the standard version (727-100) and a stretched version (727-200) which carried
almost half as many again passengers as the -100

madness, i'll take your word for it :)

edit: actually, now thinking about it, you didnt check your figures before you put those qoutes in did you ?

so I shall endevour to counter-qoute you :p
Within the next 40 years our over-crowded world is due to take on another three billion people, half as many again as today
    (click)

the worlds population today is about 6 billion, half as many again is plus another 3 billion.

on your qoute about the boeings:
    727-100 has seating for 131 (click )
    727-200 has seating for 189 (click )

if the 727-200 had half as many again seats as the 727-100 (as you describe it), it should have 131+131+131/2 right? that'd be 327 ish.

infact 189 is almost 1.5 times 131...(as it states in the qoute you gave!)

half as much again, means 1.5 times the number previously mentioned, not 2.5 like you're trying to tell me :p

Replicant "surely 6 + (half as many again) is 6 plus (half of 6) ?"

no, that is 6 + half as many

Replicant "not 6 + (half of 6) + 6, otherwise they would have writen "one and a half times as many again" "

no, one and a half times as many again would be 15

    I said it was 15!

    EDIT:

(if A gives B x balls, then A gives B half as many again, then A has x+x/2 balls)

right? :nervous: I give up, I've had no sleep :shocking:

As someone already stated if this is off one of them quiz channels then the answer could be anything. This answer is NEVER a simple question of maths. It's all about interpertation of the question and ONLY the quiz show knows how to interpert it. There was a show on the TV (might have been Watchdog or something) that showed this scam.

I'd stay away. Well away. If I remember, it costs a quid to call up AND no guarantee of getting through to the studio. No wonder they can give a top prize of £1000. Wooooo!!

We will never know, because whoever was watching it missed the answer.

Even if the quiz show repeats the question it would have a different answer because they change the rules and method for each question.
