Norton in Nazi mode!

Dr PirateDr Pirate Posts: 8,303 Legendary Poster
I went away for a couple of days recently and over that time, had a call from me mum saying that Norton anti virus wasn't working, I told her it would be fine and that I'd sort it when I got back, I got in about half an hour ago to discover that Norton wasn't auto protecting, and that Norton Internet Security (firewall) had been disabled. I have no clue how this happened seeing as mum only uses the PC to play cards and do shopping.

Help me please :)

(Also, it says that I don't have the administative rights to change any of the settings, even tho I am system admin and I installed the bastard thing  )

oo this happened to me in a funny sort of way, expect i caused it by being stupid while downloading programs that i shouldnt of been (not porn, Just to state that)

My problem was that i had a a big virus thing that shut off all my security and screwed the computer! :nervous:

Anyway sounds like a virus or a trojan that dont want you to do nothing i sugest you:

    >boot up in safe mood
    >Remove norton!
    >install new stuff

Yeah, as above. Safe Mode. Google it too, probably show up similar experiences.

Grab the latest AVG and install it in safe mode, scan the whole bastard thing. Also, update Norton if you feel like it.

Cheers guys, I ran a full system scan and found 18 infected files on my old HDD (that I no longer download stuff to). It was all Gamespy related, so I simply deleted everything.

I ran live update and get 2 new updates patches, restarted and everything seems to be working fine. *touch wood*

I didn't realise that Gamespy Arcade was bad!!

I was forced to install it a couple of years back with a legitimate purchased game. I think it was with American McGee's "Alice".

Get rid of that fucker. :( It's leakier than, um... a very leaky thing. And it's often acused of having integrated spyware. I never install it after it managed to jock up everything once.
