Kind of suprising, where do you think he will end up?

Rumour has it that his injury is far worse than suspected, so Man U wouldn't offer him a contract for next year.

I think he has been a great servant to the club, and one of the best we've had. We said the same about Bryan Robson when he finished, and then along came Keano. There will be another out there........just a bit worried about how long it will take to find him though!!!!

Do you think his exit might have been prompted by the recent events regarding his MUTV interview?

You would think a player who have served United that well would leave at the end of the season in a more dignified manner.

Good, I'm very glad that their only competent midfielder has gone.

Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes - what planet are you on Felix?

i can't believe it, when you consider all he's done for the club it doesn't seem right to be pushed out the door like that, he wasn't really gonna stay for another season anyways so i'm surprised fergie was so harsh.......ah well good luck to him, i'll never forget that headed goal against juventus in the semi-final when we were 2-0 down, typical of how he would take hold of the game by the balls, much like gerrard at liverpool in that respect......

Ronaldo reminds me of Garcia...full of tricks and nothing really to show for it 6/10

Giggsy and scholes are getting on, definately past their peaks.

ETA:He's always said he wants to join Celtic at some point of his career so hopefully he'll join the hoops.

Ronnie lad is ten times the player Garcia is. He's only 20 and is going to be even better once he learns to stay on his feet.

Kean was past his peak three seasons ago. His form has been the main reason for our recent slump. We should have replaced him two seasons back when there was money in the bank to do so.

He'll be great for Celtic - he's still good enough to play against second rate teams week in week out. Just hope his few good games per season (based on last two years) come against Rangers.

I might sound bitter here, but I'm not. He's been a fantastic player, but Fergie would be the first to admit (well probably not) that there is no place for sentimentality in the game (eg Larry White a few seasons back)

    Fair enough.

Keano has been a great service to United, one only has to look at the stats, 87 goals for a midfielder is a good record, but yea can't get too sentimental.

How about the motivation factor though? How about a player that can lift a team simply by his presence and who can shout anyone into his place?

That will be missed far more than the actual on-the-ball play Keane contributed to the team.

Ferguson is the one you should've replaced a few seasons ago mate.

You're quite right Aladdin. My friend and I do reviews for a United fanzine now and then, and I recently related Keanes presence to that of 'El Cid'

i.e. He doesn't do much now, and is well past his best, but there is something missing when he isn't in the team (presence) - they could tie his body to a stake on the pitch and they would play better! if you get me?????

Fergie still has the tactical nounce etc, but seems to have handed over too much power to those who don't - Queiroz, Phelan etc. Again - can't be too sentimental, and I think we need some new ideas. There isn't much that needs fixing to make them a top class team again

I think recent events hastened his departure but he was always going at the end of the season anyway. He's not the player he was an Fergie has never been sentimental, as I'm sure Jim Leighton would testify to...

It's a shame but all careers come to an end.

Players of that quality are never easy to replace, as Arsenal have found out with Vieira.

Keane will most likely go to Celtic.

Shocked he left but it was always inevitable.

Hope he doesnt go to celtic so he doesnt play against Gers.

Another loss for " the great united " who now need to replace Keane AND bring in a high profile " 25million plus " player < that was said by a guy from shareholders united in an interview with Sky Sports News a short while ago.

You do know Ballack is an attacking midfielder of the Scholes mould, don't you?

That would make the drug cheat captain. Good, that solves some libel problems:D

Yep hopefully! He'll costy them a fortune in wages and is injury prone.

Seriously tho, he probably will go to Celtic but why ? They already have that same type of midfielder (Neil Lennon) and can't see them both in the same team.

My dad is convinced that there will be an announcement tomorrow morning before the Old Firm game.

Personally i hope he doesn't go to Celtic - not because I thik he'll be fantastic but because I don't want the Celtic fans to be happy (they've been going on about Keane for years now)!

Farewell Keano. My favourite player ever, more a hero than anything else. A true great, and probably the best midfielder the premiership has ever seen.

I'm not too upset as he was getting on obviously and now this has forced the move for a top quality replacement.

Ballack does have the presence and undoubtedly the ability to fit the Keane mould but if Real want him more they'll probably get him.

It's the end of an era, now let the restructuring begin.

Come on, who in Man Utd has the flair aggression and drive like Kean has to take a role in centre midfield? No way could any of those 3 take a permanent role in midfield and hold it like Keane does. Roy Kean like Viera is a specialist and not many players can do what they do as good as they do it.

I don't think that was the point he was making.

You said that you were glad Keane had left as he was our only competent midfielder.

Manickev was pointing out that Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs (to name a few) are all competent midfielders.

I think what you meant to say is he is our only competent holding midfielder, which has some reasonable truth. Though if Alan Smith can retain and build on some of the qualities he showed against Chelsea then we don't have to panic just yet . We'll bring someone in in January.
