Pornography - 'that which exploits and dehumanizes sex so that human beings are treated as things and women, in particular, as sex objects.'

What are your opinions?

Well, there are different types of porn. [Not that I would know, you understand!]

I mean, there are lot of Gary Glitters out there [don't even get me started] but let's take it as general, mainstream porn. When a pal of mine decided her b/f wasn't putting out often enough, she bought this tape; 1 hour of sex in your face sex, a chick, a bloke and an orange. [Don't ask, I have no idea.] But apparantly it worked, so I guess it's OK if THAT kind of stuff is a turn on for people.

But I think the violent porn is pretty sick and dangerous to have around, and YES as a whole it does degrade women. But they're [hopefully] consenting and want to do it for one reason or another.

The one video I ever did watch with mates at a part once, was so one sided it was unbelievable. The girl was a clone of Jennifer Lopez, completely naked [as the closeups kept reminding me!] and the all there was for me to ogle was this pasty white skinny little shrimps with unzipped jeans and a barely unbuttoned shirt. Oh joy.

So it's OK in moderation, but COME ON let's have a decent male body in there somewhere!

My god I'm so shallow............sob sob....

"Whether it is overtly violent or not, pornography shows women in a degrading, humiliating way, often with the message that women enjoy this and want to be abused. It seems that pornography has become acceptable in our society - the top shelves of newsagents are full of pornographic magazines and tabloid 'newspapers' display half - naked women on their pages."

Do you women out there agree with this statement?

OK I know I am sad, and I hope I don't offend anybody,

But I love pornography - Apart from these boards and football, I'm afraid I don't use the net for anything else!!

I've got pretty good at one handed typing.

As long as it doesn't involve children, animals or violence, I think porn is ok.

And Don't get me started on what me and mrs derby use our digital camera for!!

    regards derby

But don't you ever think that some women will be offended by this!

What is the correlation between pornography and abuse?

I do not believe in anyway there is one.

I find it extremely difficult to accept that in the UK, any female is forced into posing for top shelf glamour/soft porn magazines. If women choose to remove their clothing in order to earn substantial amounts of money, it is there choice, so why not!

I have never seen any pornography that portrays women "wanting to be abused", as to whether they enjoy it, I do not know, as I do not know any porn stars.

However if I was paid £500+ to take my clothes off and pose in a magazine, I would not think I was being degraded or abused.

I do think that some of the sexually overt images in Cosmo/Elle etc, which show stick thin anorexic models in size 8 dresses (and below!) are really degrading women.

They portray an impossible view of what women should aspire to, therefore it is they that are dehumanising them. This is part the reason, why anorexia is rising in this country.

If you compare that to the "real" women in Reader's wives, who come complete with their size 16 figures, cellulite, stretch marks, wrinkles and all, there really is little basis to your argument. They invariably sell pictures of themselves for the laugh, to be in a magazine, and £50 for the fun of it.

I find this a damn site more acceptable than I do the anorectic images of todays models. Why is it they never show real women. Over half the countries female population is size 16+.

OK, I think pornography (as previously stated, as long as it does not involve children, animals or violence) not only is acceptable - But also is a normal part of most of the male population's spare time activities.

The problem is that many men believe that all women are alike and that just because some of them pose naked that they all like to be treated as sexual objects, rather than human beings.

I can partly agree with what you are saying. I suppose the "neanderthal" man out "on the pull", with a belly full of lager fits into your stereotype.

However I would say that only a few "men believe that all women are alike......."

Your "many" men, sounds a bit like the feminist "all men are potential rapists" argument, which I find to be very flawed.

I feel that, yeah, if it's clean and was made with the woman's full consent, ie she was not forced into it, then I think it's ok.

Yeah, whatever turns you on, I personally prefer erotic stories, any views?

Not no problem with pornography with consenting models, so long as it doesn't involve bestiality or paedophilia its not an issue.

I would say that young children perhaps shouldn't have access to it, but thats all. Any one got any problems with adults looking at photos/films involving consenting adult models?

okay heres a mindbender is porn degrading if the model enjoys the fact that shes going to be looked at and paid handsomely, its perfectly normal for guys and gals to enjoy it since if we didnt we obviosly would have a problem with our sexuality so is it wrong tell me that
