I'm getting quite pissed off at university as the town is ridiculous. If you look 'below 21' you won't get served (the guy in my flats looks a lot older and he gets asked for ID)... I can't even buy a beer anywhere but the union bar and to go to union nights in other clubs I need a passport or drivers license.
But I'm 200 miles from home and the only people I know for a counter signature for a passport are the doctor and my friend's Mum. So whilst everybody else is out socialising and making friends I simply can't...
Which is why I'm considering quitting already. By the time I get a passport I might as well not bother because everybody else will have their groups of friends. I'm already starting to feel lonely as I don't have a clique and I don't feel like one of my flatmates likes me (for some reason)...
Gonna give it two weeks then quit.

And why should you be over 21 to get served? This isn't America
Can understand what you mean with friends etc. I havent got accomodation yet so arent meeting many people, and it'll be too late by the time I get somewhere to stay.
I didn't get what i would consider proper friends until term 2!
Still, at least I'll get work done.
But don't quit you're there to make a future for yourself, not just for the drinking and socialising.
The age old saying is that the 1st term you make loads of friends and then you spend the 2nd term trying to get rid of them. Honestly you might feel you're missing out but your best friends do come later on in the year. People you meet now will just be associates in a few months time.
Don't quit for god's sake. Its always hard in the first couple of weeks, you just have to give it time!!!! As for being shy, people worth knowing will take the time to get to know you. Its well worth the hassle of getting a passport to sort id out, or get a prove it card??? you can get the forms from your union and get a tutor to counter sign it. Don't wuss out yet, uni is a growing up experience, you just have to try!
First is that you could get a portman card, Those are accepted everywhere,
I'd reccomend one of those over a Citizen card as Citizen cards are easily faked and those not being accepted at so many places (very easy to get hold of via the internet)
or the 2nd is that you must have a doctor in your uni town?
They'll countersign for you, for £10 or something.
I felt really down last night, a fair few things to sort out. Fortunately on the walk home I met two other students, one of which who knew somebody in my position and we found a bar that let us in. Ok it's noisy... But it'll do eh?
It's just me panicking that's all.
To be fair though, in a lot of places around here they won't even let you through the door unless you have ID and that even includes weatherspoons pubs!
Don't be so negative. As you said, at least you get work done this month! You can give your lecturers a good impression eh?
I think I know how you feel... Just hang in there. In my case, there were only a few uninteresting people to talk to for the first year or so and now I'm out almost every weekend -and not always with the same people. I'm not saying it will take a year, but it can take a while.
One word of advice: Don't stick to the same people and hope you'll get to know them better. Talk to many of them until you think you've found where you fit in. Good luck
can u not move into storthes? from what i understand there are loads of places left there, if not5 have you been to the uni and got a list off the accomodation office (its in csb somewere) , they have lists of private rents approved by the uni
failing that if you walk round and look on the different department notice boards there will be "looking for 1 more person to share a house" type notices or there usually is anyway.
Basically if you can't afford a passport because you're on low income, you're not entitled to the same things people on higher income are entitled to... Like a night on the town. -shrug-
And no Turlough, there's no way in hell I'm missing Wales lol
