Des Lynam has been chosen to be the new host of Channel 4's Countdown.

Other candidates to follow the late Richard Whiteley included Noel Edmonds(!) and Paul Merton, but I thought Gyles Brandreth would have been a good candidate as well, considering his connection with the show.

    Des is a good replacement, always liked that man...though Richard is a hard act to follow.
