    Oh, for goodness sakes.

I don't like this current trend for "ooh be nice to the stupid noobs who can't be arsed to read a short document that took us weeks to prepare". If they make a genuine mistake that isn't expressly pointed out in an obvious document then, yeah, be nice to them. But if they can't be bothered to read the welcome pack before posting then why should we be all lovey to them?

People like Wildchild spent ages writing that Good Manners Guide. If people can't be bothered to read it then they should get flamed and then banned.

i never read the good manners guide or whatever it's called, but common sense and reading other posts shows not to bring up old threads. it tends to be pointless anyway. it just seems to be a bit unnecessary when it was a mistake.

im with lucifer devil here, a pleasant reminder is proberly more effective than over reacting and making it unwelcoming for new members to post

They love it though. Secretly they'd prefer people to bring up old posts and use txt talk because it gives them an excuse to have a pop. innit. :D

With Kermit. Guide there for a reason. Most dicussion boards have rules and like to read before you post. If you can't be arsed to read them don't post and if you do then people should have the right to flame them.

Well I don't think the flame was justified for this thread. I didn't think it was 3 years old because there was only 1 reply and the two users are still here, and it is a relevant enough topic.

What I hate is some 2001 thread with the title "8 months pregnant, partner left, what shall I do" then some nub with the 119th post says "yep I agree with the above post"

The thing that makes my mind boggle is that they obviously found it on google, signed up, and then trawled through 946 pages of crap just to get to this thread. To comment on a website someone posted in 2002.

People must trawl pages to find this stuff. If its on the first two pages of a forum then fair enough, it might be old but its not unjustifiably so.

If you don't read, and don't make a mistake. Fine. If you can't be arsed, and bring up a thread many years old there's no reason not to flame. I'm with kermit, yet again, on this Lucifer.

Not really, do a search with the word "blagging" in the thread title and this will come up, some people just carelessly see an old thread and reply to it by searchng for it, I did it once when I first started and I got flamed, big deal.

but if he didn't read it how would he know it was a mistake? perhaps he didn't know the good manners guide exists. i for one wouldn;t know where to find it and i've been here over 2 years. he's new, we all were once. yes, i've probably flamed a few newbies but in this case i don't think it was necessary.

I read the good manners guide last night...well i started reading it anyway...i got bored

I didn't join TheSite just for this topic...i joined because the other site i tried to join kept crashing on me :grump: and i needed an answer to my little "trainers problem" quickly

    No need to overreact

    Maff.

It's contained in the first sticky in most forums as, for example, anything goes good manners guide or user guide. It's also the first topic in announcments, in its own right. If you can find this aged tripe, you can find that.

When a newbie joins up the last thing they want to do is read a "Good Manners Guide" for an internet forum.

Well then they shouldn't join up, or they should be prepared to take the flak that they receive.

Like the mong who was selling her worthless law textbooks in Student, and then whinged about the "abuse" she got, you should read the Good Manners Guide and the rules or shut the fuck up.

Good Manners are obvious anyway. I'm sick of all this "love the moron" campaign- spamming, and dragging up dead threads, is frowned up on on ALL forums, not just this one. Do it and get insulted. I'd propose to bring back flogging for spammers, and it wouldn't be OTT, but the mods don't agree.

Why do you need abuse people when just a general bit of guidance or a link to the good manners guide would suffice?

Is it simply because a 'flaming' is more fun?
