The reason why Im curious is that just off my loan, alone I will get £100 a week. I think I will get a job, I will end up spending £70 a week (food, phone, tv, dancing/singing lessons, bus travel, travelling to see my bf)
which will leave me £30 to socialise. I dont drink alcohol at all (for many reasons) so i wont be spending loads on alcohol but i still go out.
how much on average do you spend a week in total? do you think I need a job?

umm, well my rent is £45 per week. my landlord pays the water so we pay the electricity and gas. we have a gas meter and all give £10 every now and again when it needs topping up. that only costs a tenner now and again so couldn't really say how much it costs a week. same with electricity. for a year, i think i paid about £25 towards the electricity. food, umm..well pasta is your best friend! students generally eat cheapily so you can manage on a few quid a day but it depends what you like to eat and what you can cook. i like my food, so would rather go with out something else and not have scabby food. going out..in my first year we didn't go a lot but are making a resolution to go out more this year! so maybe once a week (at the most!), costing between £10-20 a week. gotta love student nights. just see how you get along. you know you'll have to be careful with your money, so be sensible. i certainly wasn't for my first semester and blew my overdraft! :(

£25 a year on leccy??? Lucky you! I pay about £5 a week, plus £5 a week gas in winter for central heating.

It's easy to spend less. If you don't drink, smoke or drive, and avoid going shopping, you won't spend much.

£30 a week to go out if you don't drink is loads! A meal out, plus a cinema trip, plus the student union usually puts on free or cheap events.

    oh yeh, my car.

i generally only use it to commute 40 mins home at the weekend to go to work. my insurance is £50 a month, so about £12 a week (ooh never thought of it like that before :grump: ). and then say £5 a week petrol.

eta: i also contribute (when i remember!) £7 to the broadband a month. and then there's my mobile phone bills.

Think of it this way. Get a job, earn some money, be better safe than in a mound of debt with nothing in the cupboard to eat but a can of tuna and some old oxo cubes.
I thought I'd be able to get away with no job but I was very wrong and my overdraft now says so.
