Hubbys working rights?

Hiya

My hubby works mon-fri(39hrs a week), and has been with the company for almost 2years!
The other day the company put a bombshell on all the staff by saying the have to work Saturdays aswell. Now that would completely muck everything up, we wouldnt get care for Colin and it would affect our tax credits!
There are alot of people at his work who are in this situation, some only get access to there kids at weekends, so there scared of losing there children!
And if they dont do this then they can risk losing there jobs, the company has plenty of weekend staff thats whats hard to understand!
Just wondered of anyone new what rights he has as a parent?

best people to talk to would be CAB tbh ... the phone no. would be in your local directory.
either that, or settle for working saturdays too. but his obligations to his work would be detailed in his contract... which should inc. his and the companys responsbilities wrt any amendments that might occur.

"In theory, your employer cannot change a term in your contract without you agreeing to the change. In practice, you may be faced with the choice of accepting the change or losing the job. However, you may be able to take some action against the employer if you disagree with the change".

    From here

Make an appointment at your local CAB office.

I would actually dispute talking to the CAB initially, and would suggest ringing ACAS instead, the independent employment rights and mediation organisation. The CAB are very good, but ACAS are the specialists.

    Have a look at the website and ring 08457 47 47 47.

generally most contracts state that they expect you to work where and whenever they feel necessary, covers their backs in situations like that.
