PC won't switch off.

Got a bit of a problem in that when I shut down my PC, the monitor shows it as having turned off but the hard drive light is still flashing as if it's having a damn good search for something. It also makes a lot of 'processing noise'. It stays like this unless I switch it off at the mains.

Furthermore (possibly related) I've lost my Internet connection which is on an external cable modem attached via USB. Suddenly I'm getting frequent messages saying that a USB device has malfunctioned (even when I unplug all USB's).

It's knackered. Any ideas?

Seems to be a problem with most win 9x based OS's, 95 - ME.

My 98 PC's sometimes dont shut down, just hit the power button on the front or the black PSU switch.

Looks like its reinstall time for you I think. OS has gone tits up.
