May Day is an opportunity for anarchist thugs to protest against the capitalist system, usually. Which is stupid, as the capitalist system works. Well, just about anyway.

Well, it's my Dad's Birthday!! We celebrate that.

Used to do maypole dancing and country dancing when I was at infant school. Also took those crepe paper maypole things in. Never really sure of the point but it meant that we didn't have lessons and just wandered around. It was cool.

In the town where I went to school just outiside Belfast they have a maypole thing every year. Doesn't exactly toot my horn though so I never go.

Tonight I was at a May Day thing in Edinburgh, watching pagans do scary things with fire stark bollock naked. Pretty fun night with a few beers, and I got this juggling thing from an old bloke I shared a spliff with. Gotta love pagans!

As to Stargalaxy's point - Mayday in the UK is all about the starting of summer, maypoles, etc. In the rest of the world it's the international day of Labour, Labour day, etc - hence the protest stuff

Over here, as Jim said, no one works on may day, so no school/university either. And it's a custom to make a ring of flowers stolen from other people's gardens and hang it over your door until the next year.

This year though, May Day is on the 11th instead of the 1st, because it happened to be the same day as Easter...

    fuck the system man!

mayday means nothing to me except a day off school which i didn't even have the luxury of having today as my teacher made the school open just to teach us...and on an awful hangover too :(

It's a fertility festival, hence dancing around the May pole. The Bel fire, which couples can hold hands and jump over is supposed to make you more fertile.

Well I got up early, put on my finest morris dancer clobber, had a bit of a boogie, smacked my stick with some other similarly dressed people, then got a mohican cut, put some tartan suspenders on and went and trashed a local McDonalds. What a day. And I've got a Russian exam tomorrow!

Me and my extreme morris dancer homies

May Day is the Day of the worker, except in the UK it seems! Oh well.

While other folks march, we dance around poles! Makes sense... I suppose!

It's a week till my birthday, I'll celebrate that.

Other than that, it just feels like a lazy sunday. Thing is I should be revising.

Actually it is becoming more usual to have a May Day protest in C London. There was some stuff on the 29th but 'twas pretty low-key htis year I think.

Remember when I was a kid, I'd go watch the marathon and cheer them on, whilst collecting all the wet sponges and smack me mates with them in their faces.

Last May day I danced around a Maypole and jumped the Belfire and played tribal drums in a teepee.
