Moving house prior to end of contract!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Ok well i have a 6 month contract at a house and live with two other people.
Now the people i live with are unreasonable and unsociable and it has got to the point where i no longer want to be here.

I have been here for 3 months and need to get out my question is does anyone know the worst that can happen to me legally should i live before my contract ends. Its a contract we all signed and presumably they will stay when i leave.

an example of why i want to leave is because they were trying to get me to pay half the electricity bill because i have a computer on 24/7 with no proof that it will make the electric bill sky rocket. This was like an interegation and so the day after i did a little research to find out computers use very little electric and like 1/2 or a 1/3 of what the tv does for example. Since then 16 days ago one of my housemates hasnt spoken to me (oh she threatened to take me to court if i didnt pay too).

Thanks guys and gals!

it is proven that computers drain A LOT more energy than most people think.

You'll probably either have to pay the rent for the 3 months you've got left there or find someone to take over your place.

That might well be, but it is better for pc's to be left on 24/7. My base unit is never switched off, but I turn my monitor off every time I leave it since they are what relaly waste the most electricity.

He wanted proof. There it is. Monitors are worse, no doubt.

Yep you probably could be taken to court for failure to keep to a legally binding contract, but it depends how your contract is worded in the first place and what get out clauses you have if any.

How do they know what you do with your PC? Don't you have a lock on your room?

Maybe you could find someone else to move in if you leave.
