as a bloody topic its getting on my nerves, no matter how much you correct people, they still spurt out the same crap - at least on some of the more right wing boards they come up with some arguments like forced laboour which provide me with great humour

I'm fed up of hearing about it, because to me I don't think it is a big issue. I'm sick of hearing the same xenophobic comments time and again. I also think that as a nation we're pretty hypocritical... think of the sheer numbers of people who migrate to places like Spain every year!

I'm fed up of the Tories, that's for sure.

So why post abother topic on it? I'd say the majority of new topics on this board on immigration are by people saying on are complaining that the right focus on it too much before then focusing on it themselves.

I'm fed up because left wing idiots like you continue to bring it up. Thanks.
On another note: immigration is out of control.

Empty buckets make the most noise, or whatever you say in English (know the proverb in Danish and Hebrew if it's any help).

Either way, I do feel that immigration is an issue which is essential when discussing the development of our countries. You can't exactly ignore it, whatever stance you have on the issue.

this is more a complaint of the arguing style or debating style, it seems the rules of forum ie back up your claim with something unless its clearly stated as an opinion which is usually worthless anyway

Immigration is out of control, yet we let the least in out of the whole of Europe. Is the rest of Europe out of control?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Almost. In English the saying goes: "Empty vessels make the most noise," which can be interpreted as any three-dimensional empty thing, but I think actually refers to ships being the vessel.

Anyhow on immigration, I have no idea whether the UK takes the least in Europe, but I do know cerca 1999, which is a while back France was taking on double the amount of newcomers compared to GB. Comparatively France has a very similar population to UK, but twice the land mass. So on paper everything looks hunky-dory...but how much housing is available/crampdness of cities, how many placed in rural areas (France has many more living rurally than UK) all this has to be cogitated, weighed up and all the rest and demographics looked at carefully.

Asylum to the UK is not a problem

    http://www.unhcr.org.uk/info/briefings/asylum_issues/myths.html

Also we may have an increase in the number of people entering the country as migrants we have an increase in the number of British people emigrating aboard.

I must say that those that support immigration, as I do, do themselves no favours by making wild exxagerations such as this, and others such as 'British people won't do these jobs".

It gives easy ammo for those who oppose immigration...........

Migrants more than paying their way

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/guardianpolitics/story/0,,1470868,00.html

'The calculations, using Treasury data and the Labour Force Survey by the Institute for Public Policy Research, show that although the migrant workforce makes up 8.7% of the population, it contributes 10.2% of all the income tax collected.'

'Migrants also earn about 15% more a week on average than their British-born counterparts, reflecting not only that many migrants are in highly skilled, high paid jobs but that even those in low skill, low wage jobs, work long hours and pay not insignificant amounts of tax. A migrant is defined as someone born outside the UK but resident here.'

Sixty per cent of Asians think there are already too many immigrants in the UK, a BBC opinion poll has suggested.

It would be useful to have a source for that.

The questions asked are probably key to understanding the responses......

    _1993597_is_britain_racist_150.gif

According to a BBC online poll, 53% of whites thought Britain was a racist society, whilst only 41% of Asians thought so (as opposed to 45% who didn't).

    And yet:
And almost two-thirds of whites said they believe immigrants do not integrate or make a positive contribution to Britain.

So - apparently the majority of Asian respondents, in a poll where 66% of whites expressed a racist view, said that Britain wasn't a racist society.

    lol 1.48 people per family!

    open the gates!

actually, considering how rampant socialism is in Europe i dont see why its considered a problem. Just raise taxes, i mean everyones happy to pay for neccessary public services right? Maybe they are more selfish than they think...

I'm sick of people just walking into this country and getting things free. Whenever we want to emmigrate it is totally the opposite. I am emmigrating to Australia and the amount of things we have had to have is unbelievable, why couldn't we have adopted their system sooner?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Because it is shit. The market knows what workers it needs better than the governnment.

Do they really? That's news to all of us.

Because unlike John Howard we're not a bunch of right wing bigoted arseholes.

    I am emmigrating to Australia
So you're an economic migrant or someone simply in search of a better life- just like many of those who come to this country then.

I trust you will volunteer to be tested for HIV, TB and other diseases, and to be locked up in a detention centre until the Australian authorities decide whether you're really a worthy immigrant or someone coming to scrounge their generous welfare system and blah blah...

I really wish the UK would not let in any immigrants or asylum seekers, especially the ones your Eastern Europe. Nothing but trouble.
