now i know this is a bit late, but i was reading the flyer for HH: The Finale @ The Sanctuary last year, remember going up there into the old upstairs room and seeing about 10 nutters in there, thinking :yuck: @ the beats and going back down. this memory made me think 'Oh my god what a fucking revival techno/gabba/the 'hard stompin' sound has gone through over the last 12 months.
Gabba/Hard(er)core replacing old skool in arena 2 @ HTID.... regular appearances by over seas DJs playing STUPIDLY hard gabba (Tommyknocker take a bow, and some valium please, after your set i was :crazyeyes) with Ribbz making a regular appearance in the main arena (wicked bad ).
As i said im probably being unbelieveably slow, but god what a turn around from the start of 2004...

Nothing complares to the Technodromes of the 90's mate. The Producer, Dolphin, Scorpio, Clarkee, HMS etc etc
ok then blaggy, whats techno to you? :
One type of techno.
:yeees:
It ain't intelligent, and it ain't from Detroit. But it's fucking having it!
To be honest, I'm all for the hardcore techno movement, I love it! Promoters like Uproar/Bedlam (Bonehead b2b Smurf ) and HTID especially bringing in international artists and putting them in a prime time slot in the main room are doing wonders for the scene.
There's some quality established labels like Enzyme that are bringing more and more interest into the scene, which can only be a good thing.
With the exception of HMS, I know every single on of those is still about. I've heard more than a few tapes from back in t'day and every one I've heard has been spot on, though the scene is just as alive and kicking now, if not more so. I'd love to get my hands on a few of the more scarce tunes (Six Million Ways, Name of the DJ, Nosferatu's Enemy of the State) but don't particularily fancy paying in excess of £100 a pop!
As well you've got so much variation nowadays, Producer playing typical hardcore techno littered with rap/hip-hop samples, Scorpio playing down-right dirty fast gabber, Hellfish more technically mixed and playing breakcore, Ophidian producing some of the most amazing stuff (Butterfly VIP!) and people like Smurf and Bonehead (see Bedlam) playing fucking evil speedcore!
Pfft.
From what I saw/remember of the Tommyknocker set it was indeed a blinder. But that ain't nothing mate, I'll send you a mix tape if you want? Look out for Smurf or Bonehead like I said at Bedlam, I'm sure they'll play a stupidly fast set. Ever heard of Loftgroover? He used to play at upto 400bpm back in the day. Fucking madness, not that I condone this sort of behaviour mind, there is a limit!
Enough with the essay. Remember kids.. life sounds better at 220bpm.
DJ Clarkee @ Dreamscape NYE 1993...if i get chance i'll send you a fuckin stompin tune from clarkee which i've got tacked onto the start of a Slipmatt set (its got an NWA sample in it 'A bitch is a...'
...with your exclusive taste in reprobate european bang bang moozik you can fuck right off if you think i'm jumping in some dodgy Ford Escort Biscuit ti, with 3 subs in the back and bouncing all the way down the M3 to london with you, you've got another thing coming old son...no way ...:D
You knows it, brer.
Drokz is another one to watch out for, he's a fucking nutter mate (both production wise and in his DJ sets from what I've heard). Also watch out for The Outside Agency, they're producing some amazing atmospheric slower hardcore techno (Screaming Phoenix VIP et al).
'It's the most obnoxious, arrogant and downright evil music known to man...why wouldn't I like it!?'
- Someone I haven't seen in years who I got reunited with during the depths of a Scorpio set. Legend.
Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Red Planet, Underground Resistance, Octave One, Plastikman/Ritchie Hawtin, Surgeon, Dave Clarke, DJ Rolando, LFO etc etc
That's OK for old for old lightwieghts like yourself, but we need something to stomp to.
I know of Dave Clarke.
They're both hard techno, but funky with it. Something lacking in most hardcore these days.
I think Kraftwerk are more to blame...
