    1) Look at the beer, if it is flat replace it with a fresh pint, if that is also flat the barrell or gas supply may need changing.

    3) I think something to do with the pub ownership, not 100% sure.

    4) Fire triangle is a triangle with the aspects needed for a fire, oxygen, heat and fuel. All 3 are needed to create a fire. Kill one and the fire should die out.

    5) A widget is a small plastic 'ball' added to canned beers in order to create the head while pouring from the can.

    6) ask them to work together, if not investigate the reasons why not.

    7) Explain the decision to them listening to their opinions.

    10) Inform the chair of the meeting beforehand.

    13) See company procedures/handbook/contract.

    18) Clean. A manager should also found out why it happened and ensure it doesn't happen again.

    19) Paramount, top priority etc.

    Good luck etc.

    1) Check the gas cannister isn't finished. Or if it's an ale tell the person to get fucked.

    9) Get the bouncers and if they can't deal with it, call the rozzers. If you get involved, act only in self defence and if you have to hit someone do it with an open hand, apparently it makes it harder for the other person to accuse you of assault. If you have to get someone out make sure you get any glasses out of their hands and try and keep them facing away from you and at a bit of a distance. If you really can, put them in an arm lock, makes things way easier.

WOW lucky to get the questions before an interview.

    Good luck with the interview!

    8) basically this is where you need to say main qualities you have which will help you to run the place, and also draw on any experience, and ability to adapt and change things for the better

    9) Write incident report forms of exactly what happened obviously if it becomes a polcie matter you will be able to say that straight after it, you noted exactly what happened, and also anyone else who saw it get them to do same.
Poss think about door staff if its a continual problem, and obv report to manager.
Dont put youself or staff at risk, just call police if its serious. Ensure safety of public.

    10) bring what you have managed to do, but explain to person in charge before meeting and apologise.

    11) just need to show you want to continue through the industry. Be enthusiastic about making your way thru the comanpy/chain. Just want to check that you have ambition.

    12) assuming you have bar experience...should be easy to come up with.
agressive customer maybe? how situation was resolved. or a staff disagreement.

    13) Explain to staff member privately that this is not acceptable practice. Should this be seen/heard of again they will face disiplinary action. Make all staff aware of the policy to ensure it is being taken seriously.

    14) Obv answer is at school with essays etc but keeping more recent, any times when you've had to do something in a certain time. Just say you've never had a problem as you always "plan your time effectively". time planning big thing employers look for!

    15) Unless there are any major problems you see, you should metnion doing an assessment of how the bar is run, and how effective its policies are, how its staff work, and ensure that anything that can be improved is.

    18) Make the bar tidy and then investigate what happened to make ti so untidy in such a short time!

    19) customer service is the top priority of all staff. without the customers, the bar would not even run! Ensure that customers are always getting more than they expect in order to continually impress them and provide a high standard of customer care.
Mention internal customers as wel.. staff suppliers etc, everyone who you come into contact with while working is a customer or a potential customer.

Let your personality come through in the interview, to work in a bar you need to have a strong character!
Good luck, you must be doing something right to get that far!

    any bad chefs out there?

Hi a bit of a strange one but as you're all talking about bar working i was hoping that maybe someone has come across a really bad chef - either one that is hopeless at cooking or one that is meaner than gordon ramsey or maybe fancies himself as the next jamie oliver when he's really really not!

    let me know!

    thanks

I've been in bar and restaurant work for 4 years, this is how i'd answer them:

Hey guys ive got an interview on thursday (2nd one so far) this one is with the main bloke. We've all been given interview questions (see below) if anyone is willing or prepared to help can you please muchly appreciated

    1) A customer complains his beer is flat, what do you do?

Ask to see the pint, if its obviously flat apologise and check the gas before changing the pint. If you think the customer is being picky or the beer is normal, still change the pint and tell him you will check the gas. If the gas is fine let it be known that there is nothing wrong with the system, but as a gesture of good will you will change the pint anyway

    3) What is a contrived let?

    4) What is the fire triangle?

Simple; the three sides of a fire triangle are HEAT FUEL and OXYGEN.

    5) What is a widget?

A widget is the name for most things in a bar that they havent found a name for. On a guiness or other creamflow beer it denotes the part of the nozzle which has perforated holes that creates the pressure that creams the pint up. In a can it is a ball of oxygen that keeps the pint fresh for when it was opened.

    6) Two staff on a bar are not working together what do you do?

Speak to them individually to find out if there is any problem, if there is try to work around it. If it is a problem of coordination or inexperience, observe them working and try to pick out flaws in how they are working (ie: if people are being missed when being served, tell them to work sections of the bar rather than the whole) and then tell them about it together. Try to be supportive and emphasise that it is a good learning experience and also mix it with praise for what they do well. (NOTE: if you show a positive attitude to keeping your staff happy it will play very well in an interview as many bar manager neglect this)

    7) One member of staff confronts you about a decision you have made, how do you handle it?

    8) What makes you the best applicant for this job?

    9) There is a fight in the club and you witness this what do you do?

Inform the door staff immediately and allow them to deal with it, while moving customers not involved out of the way of danger. Once the fight has been broken up make it know to those involved that they are barred. Find all staff who witnessed the incident and record it in an incident book.

    10) You attend a management meeting and are requested to perform tasks before the next meeting, but for matters beyond your control you are unable to complete the tasks, to avoid embarrassment at the next meeting what do you do?

THIS IS A CONTROLLED QUESTION...before the meeting plan out and demonstrate in the meeting why exactley these tasks could not be completed BUT also demonstrate how you plan to get them resolved in the quickest possible way.

    11) Where do you see yourself in 3 years time?

Dodge this one...say at the moment you are focusing on the present rather than the future...throw in some bollocks about future plans but do NOT RELATE IT TO THE JOB

    12) Give an example of conflict and how you would solve it?

    13) A member of your staff was seen drinking on duty what do you do?

Assuming that this is alcohol and that this had been fully established, follow the agreed disciplinary proceedure. In the interview you must state that while drinking MAY in certain circumstances be a final warning offence, if someone is actually intoxicated on duty it is an instant dismissal. You have to say this because in law it is criminal.

    14) Can you meet deadlines? Give an example of this.

    15) If you were general manager what would be the first thing you would change? And why?

    18) You return from a break and your bar is untidy what do you do?

Find out who was responsible during your absence and ask why the bar is in the state it is and take matters from there. Speak to more than one member of staff but make sure you see the most senior first.

    19) How important is customer service to you?

It is tha absolute essence of the industry, it is the primary service we provide and so must obviously take top priority. The products and promotions get people in the place; the service and atmosphere keep them there and spending money.

    i know i havent answered a couple but im in a bit of a rush...take care :D
