Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Got hold of a second HDD, I stuck the jumpers on the slave slot, plug it into the slave slot, and turned my pc on,

Nothing's changed.. No new HDD :( no new space.. nothing..

any ideas what it could be?

ok assuming you have the jumpers on the drive set up correctly etc

ever thought of going into control panel and using the "add/detect new hardware" option

Sure jumper is still on slave? Push it right in to make sure.

Oi, you never paid for that!

Check its all plugged in properly, sometimes IDE cables manange to wiggle out. Darn things. Pull out and push all cables in as far as the go.

Is it on the ribbon with the other HDD or CD drive? Ideally i'd put it with the other HDD, amke sure it is set as master as well. Sometimes factories get it wrong. It should detecet in BIOS if it does anywhere. No need to arse aobut in windows.

Sometimes it just luck. I spent ages getting a 4 gig to work. Just make sure the cables are fully in and such like. Listen to see if power is getting to the drive, if it spins up.

Hmm. Does the RAM work though?

Using ME..? if so theres your problem. ME Wont detect new HDDs 98 does, XP/2000 does but not ME, tis most gay.

Shouldn't the BIOS identify it anyway? I get the impression it didn't.

jumpers on master HDD was wrong... and it's working perfectly.. just had to lose a floppy drive

I don't understand that... Floppys don't use the same IDE cable as disks, except if it's a 5'12 one maybe...

nope.. but the actually floppy bay does.. my Computer only holds one HDD and one FLOPPY so i took floppy out to use the actually bay

Its a duron 600 or something he has.
    So probably yes.
Hang on, my pentium 2's case has more than that. Nah, just a rubbish case. :p Swap ya, seeing as I am selling it? Its a good case, TBH.

    My case is seriously underused...
    4 places for CD/DVD, using 2
2 places for floppies, using 1
5 places for hard drives, using 1 (I had a second one until a few weeks ago)

My main case is nearly full.
4 5.25 bays, all used. CDRW, DVD ROM, Fanbus, HDD Caddy.
    2x Floppy/HDD, 1in use.
    1x HDD thing

The PSU is fully used up, no free wires! :) It is 500 watt though.

Graeme, I just thought, do you want that case the P2 is in? Tell me if you do, its pretty good. Its heavy though.
