Ooh there are so many fab Christmas songs, I've made countless festive tapes and CDs over the years...if you want the "happy" (or at least lively!) ones for a College CD then some I'd suggest are:

The Pogues and Kirsty McColl - Fairytale of New York
    The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping
Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas
The Beach Boys - Little St Nick
    Louis Armstrong - Cool Yule
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Merry Christmas Baby
Springsteen again - Santa Claus is Comin' to Town
Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
Run DMC - Christmas in Hollis
Elton John - Step into Christmas
Paul McCartney - A Wonderful Christmas Time
Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone

Others I'd just recommend in general (although they mightn't be popular on the college CD player) are:

The Eagles - Please Come Home For Christmas
Nat King Cole - O Holy Night
Jona Lewie - Stop the Cavalry
Johnny Mathis - When a Child is Born
    The Kinks - Father Christmas

Of course, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without the obligatory hammering of Slade's (So here it is) Merry Christmas Everybody and Wizzard, I Wish it Could be Xmas Everyday.

The spaceman came travelling one. I think it is by Chris De Burgh.

just go on to some of the internet radio sites like shoutcast.com and type in christmas you'll get entire stations devoted to playing xmas songs.

Fab? Christmas songs? Surely a contradiction in terms.

I've got a christmas CD that I've made for myself. On it there's

John Lennon & Yoko Ono- Happy Xmas, War is over
Paul Mc Cartney- Wonderful Christmas Time
Wizard- I Wish it could be Christmas Everyday
    Slade-Merry Xmas Everybody
Band Aid( the GOOD band aid) - Do they know it's Christmas
Chris Rea- Driving Home for Christmas
    Wham- Last Christmas
The Pogues feat. Kirsty Macoll- Fairytale of New York
    The Waitresses- Christmas Wrapping
    Boney M- Mary's boy child
Dana- It's gonna be a cold cold Christmas
    ABBA- Happy New Year
Aled Jones- Walking in the Air
Nat King Cole- The Christmas Song
Greg Lake- I believe in Father Christmas
Chris de Burgh- A spaceman came travelling
    East 17- Stay
    Joana Lewie- Stop the cavalry
    Bing Crosby- White Christmas

and of course Bo Selecta's Proper Crimbo :)

If you want some cheesy ones, anything by Cliff

    Saviour's Day
    Mistletoe and wine

or the shitty band aid 20

    Hope that's helped

fountains of wayne - i want alien for christmas
jackson 5 - frosty the snowman
harry connick jr - santa claus is coming to town
    vandals - grandpa's last christmas
vandals - oi to the world (also available in 'no doubt' flavour too)
vandals - a gun for christmas
vandals - dance of the sugarplum fairy
the greedies - a merry jingle
    el vel -feliz navi nada
snoop dogg - twas the night before christmas (i love this track)
