The course will not be offered in the current admissions year...

So I applied to UCAS to study History and English Language. I really had my heart set on going to Manchester after visiting and really liking the uni and the course and such. It was a new course for 2005 but I was assured that the course would definitely run, even if there was very little demand for it.
So I get home from college, and there's a letter telling me that they aren't offering the course this year. It tells me I have to choose one of two courses of action:
- Changing my application to another programme at Manchester.
- Changing my application to another institution.
I pretty much exhausted the list of unis that offer the course in my application (or at least, the ones I wanted to go to), so I think I'll change my application to single honours English Language, still at Manchester.
[/rant]
So basically what I'm wanting to know is, has anyone been in this situation before? My personal statement was written for History as well as English, so if I change my course application will they take that into account, or will I be at a disadvantage for it? If I'm gonna get another let down, I want to be prepared for it, y'know?

Also, i'm sure that probably won't affect you, if it looks like you'll get the grades really that should be the most important thing. And how much do you have you heart set on Manchester Uni? Because you still get to apply to 5 other institutions.
As for the loss of the course, if nobody applies for the course then often the course does not run, in these days of tight uni funding. Apply for straight English with the current statement, English and History are not that different in terms of core skills.
Whast you might find is that you have free elective modules when you come to register, should you be offered a place, so you may well be able to do some History anyway.
I applied for so many different courses this wouldn't have been possible. Imagine writing a personal statement directed at politics, philosophy, economics, history, sociology, social policy and english literature!
I hadn't really decided what I wanted to do and was quite happy to make the decision based on what course I could get on to.
you shouldn't worry about your personal statement, are you reapplying through ucas or through the uni?
the uni will know your situation, if not get your school/college to write a letter for you.
if you reapply through ucas, you shouldn't have to pay again either.
can you not defer application if they run the course next year?
I've applied to five other unis but Manchester was where I really wanted to go - in terms of the course, the city, the distance from home, everything.
I dunno if I'm re-applying through UCAS or through the uni - the uni have sent me a form to fill in and send back to them, but the form is a UCAS one. Don't really want to defer entry, and I think it's too late to do that now anyway?
I think I'm gonna have to apply for single honours English Language, then just wait for my other offers to come through and see if any of the other unis appeal to me as much as Manchester does. It's just a big fat huge disappointment is all.
