Know of any decent tactical shooters for PC that has a good multiplayer community. The multiplayer community is a must.

I'm not to into WW2 ones, only ones about present day, etc.

I know I said no WW2 games but Battlefield 1942 looks alright. I dunno what the real system spec is tho. I've seen..

    1. min ram need is 128MB
    2. 256MB
    3. 512MB

Any ideas of which one is the real one?

256 will run it but it depends on your graphics card/cpu.

Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory is a tactical FPS. Set in WW2 though.

Gunbound is a worms style shooter, which is free and has a great community.

If you get Battlefield 1942, there is a mod called desert combat that sets it in the first iraq war. There are a ton of other mods that will get rid of the WW2 theme. The pirates one is a good laugh.

Will Battlefield 1942 run on 129MB RAM and 32MB gfx card tho?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Aye, according to gamespot those are the minimum specs. Might be worth downloading the demo just to see how well it would run.

Okay, forget about Battlefield (sorry guys) and get "Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising"

Over 100 players per map (seriously!!!), it uses the Delta Force: Black Hawk Down engine, steer vehicles of all kinds (boats, choppers, cars, etc.), use advanced modern weaponry, etc.

you can get the awsome multiplayer demo here.

    have fun! :)

oh, sorry, didn't read the post above about your system specs.
I guess Joint Ops it needs something like 512MB RAM and a geforce or radeon graphics card with at least 128MB video memory.

there are various quake 3: arena and half-life mods though you should check out. (e.g. Navy Seals for Q3A)

careful cause some shared graphics cards might have 128meg of ram, but that then lowerd the total of ram dedicated to the use of just ram, rather than graphics

sounds pedantic i know, but i have fallen foul on that mark before

but still this RAM or video memory on the graphics board is only used for graphics (e.g. textures) isn't it?
