    Go to the doctor.
I don't know what it's called in English, but it could be this zit by the eye, which could cause infection. The doctor can get rid of it.

    NHS Direct - Stye

I had a stye last week, it was really painful. The doctor said to just keep an eye (that's purely an unintentional pun) on it. They do dissapear on there own - like the website says. Annoying until they do though.

nip down to a chemist. the pharmacist should probably be able to tell you if it is a stye, or if you should see a doctor.

and while you're there, if it's a stye, they can give you ointment (maybe even the amazingly named 'goldeneye') for it.

Sounds like a stye not a serious thing but one thing you may want to avoid is touching your mouth and then your eye, for instance if you're right handed and have more problems with your right eye that could be one of the causes - There is more bacteria in your mouth then anywhere else on your body.

I had a really painful problem with my right eye for months and saw a specialist, that was really worrying. Now it's OK and I make it a point to wash my handsmore often and avoid touching them.

Styes are just painful little lumps filled with pus which can form on your eyelid. Don't touch it or rub it, and it will go away on its own within a few days. Your Mum saying about gold is an old-wives' tale; to get rid of a stye, you supposedly run a gold wedding ring under hot water until it's warm, then roll it over your afflicted eyelid. I tried it, and it seemed to work!
