Hi All,
I'm on a Hall JCR Committee and we're currently planning Fresher's Week for September.
Obviously we've got some ideas of what we're going to do but I was just wondering if anyone had anything to suggest, things that they enjoyed in their Fresher's week or just anything you think would go down well.
We've already got things like Club Tour, Pub Crawl, Barn Dance, Cinema Trip, tours of the city, all the stuff we went through last year but we're looking for new stuff!
Thanks all,
Xapis

What about something not so alcohol-orientated? Fresher's Week made me feel very pressured into drinking cos the main events were club nights where everyone else was drinking and the reps made a big deal out of drinks offers etc on alcoholic drinks.

How about something during the day when people have less to do? Like bowling or laser shooting or paintballing or something? Just a thought :)

It wasn't your uni that didn't do it, it was merely your course!

I go to the same uni and my course had lots of nice things for the freshers including a pub-crawl-poker game :p

I have vague memories of getting absolutely wasted, talking extremely grafically to everybody about my sex life (most of whom I'd only know about 3 days), and thinking that Guiness with a shot of Baileys in it ("the car bomb") actually tasted quite nice.

I've got to sort out the Fresher's programme for my course this year cos I'm the president of our society... but will probably base it largely and last years programmes due to my lack of imagination.

    WATER FIGHT!
That was the best point in my freshers week. Water fight followed by a BBQ.

    You people are useless!

    Waterfight seems good-

Boys Vs Girls competitions from limbo(girls shiould win) to drining contests (boys should win)!

Couples ball, you get the name of a famous couple going on for instance I could get beckham and some strange female would get posh. We would have to talk to everyone to find posh then halfway through the night you have to dance together and you have a kind of showdown with all the other couples worst ones slwoly been takend of the floor....might be embarressing at first but gets you interacting which is good-

Treasure Hunt- team of say 4 pulled out of a hat so you meet new people-

Sports 5 a side and BBQ-=can partake or just drink

    Girls shopping day out-

I couold go on for ages- let us kow what kind of things you have so far and ill help expand on them have a fair bit of experience in fairness!

Jesus! Couples balls, disco paint balling, water BBQ's....my uni just opened the bar and let us in.

Seemed to work for us just fine, most of the people on my course were plebs anyway and I didnt want to socialise with them.

fancy dress ball? karaoke party? some day on a field or somthing were u have a bbq, one of those things that they used to do on tely were u batter each other with foam batons over a pool of water and see who lasts the longest, bouncy castles, tug of war ect

I think a ball would be great, definitely hiring a club out is a good idea as well. Going to cinema is a good one, trips into town are also good so you can show everyone where the best bars are and the girlies can check out the shops.

I think something during the day is a good idea as well, because although I do drink alcohol I don't get drunk often and I don't like to drink more than a couple of nights in a week maximum, plus it would be good to get to know people when they're sober!

Have a few organised events, we had a fresher ball which was great. But for most of the week they just let us roam free which worked out good as you can talk as many people as you want and people cant hide.
Why have so many organised events? People will end up talking to so many random people they will never see again instead of making mates in there flat/surrounding flats etc....

    Bopz

I agree with you, I am going in September and whilst I am by no means a stick in the mud or anything, I am not as wild a party person as the cliched student. I have no intention of becoming an alcoholic and doing it just to fit in, so when you're planning freshers stuff, remember not everyone is the same!

And my suggestion..... topless foam party! :p
