Ah trojans. you need a 'firewall' to block them from getting on to your pc, Norton Personal Firewall ensures good protection.

As for how they got there, they could have been put on maliciously or they were downloaded somehow.

I looked on symmantec.com but couldn't find what they were.

Your be ok if you deleted them VIA your anti-virus and not going into the directory where they were found and deleted them there.

The JS/NoClose is a Javascript trojan that minimizes your broswer and takes you to websites either with porn or other things on them. It's a real lame trojan. When did you get them and can you remember the sites you may of got them from?

Q18dial, not sure about that one but could be a porn dialer.

Make sure you get your anti virus updated and get a firewall if you have not already got one.

You get a free one from www.zonelabs.com

firewalls don't protect against trojans

well they can but they not perfect defense. In fact I am not entirely sure you know what a firewall does by that post.

    I prefer Sygate

Though, not the perfect protection, the best way to block a trojan cheaply and effectively, is with a software firewall. Zone Alarm and Sygate are both free, and highly effective. Also, i recommend you download AdAware or Search & Destroy and run their scans, for adware, spyware, dialers etc. Both are very good and free.

    Hope this helps :)

PS. Don't you love those little bastards sitting out there, designing these lame pieces of software, just so they can say to their other little "hacker"/"cracker" friends, "h4h4 1 4m 1337, 1 r0X0R th31R B0x0rZ"

    GAY!

Firewalls and anti virus are the suck, so is wankdows, they all look like browser downloaded/installed trojans so theres no worry of you being 'hacked' in a very nasty way, but you are probably filled to the brim with spyware and addware. Its not just porn sites that do it, mp3 sites, general sites that lie about what they are, popups, etc..

Download the google toolbar for your browser to block the popups, as for the trojans, you went about removing them in the right way (for a low end user).

youve probably still got spyware and addware floating around, update nortans, and look round for spyware removers...there not hard to find, and as for zone alarm, it responds to ping requests as a moderate threat(i think), so its most likley 99% of the zone alarm warnings are absolutly nothing to worry about, ZA is good for one thing, blocking igmp dos attacks....and i doubt anyone is going to do that to you, unless you piss off some script kiddie..

now thats out of the way, time for my little rant..

get rid of the damn software arrrg windows needs to die, get proxies, learn how to edit your registry, learn how to use telnet, leanr how to use DOS, and anialate the dirty little kids

Unless you know how to secure linux/solaris/any unix based OS, it will be a hell of a lot more insecure online than a windows machine. I use windows as its easy, and also, if some other little kiddie has certain ports open, i find the tools i have very easy to do some damage :p

im sure i said that somewhere before..

Fedora is a nice newborn to the RedHat Family, as it doesnt have to use RPM, it can use debian :)

    Gentoo still pwns all...

as for making linux secure....childs play, one or two settings changed and your like a brick wall, windows is easier to exploit than anything else i know of, as for 'firewalls' dont get me started...

windows is easy to secure and run for n00bs (no offence intended to anyone), where as we (me and feelix) are talking about teh pr0's choice :p

Yes, but you are forgetting that 90% of the population are not "pr0" and don't care. They don't want to have to fiddle with /etc/hosts.deny and rebuild the kernel every time a new exploit is fixed.

They want to boot into a nice GUI, browse the web with a browser that shows everything, use Word and play games.

Linux is good, I have used it before, but I'm a techy geek, and frankly the best thing linux is good for is spending hours and hours configuring things.

Hmm. True, but then, this machine has been up for 3 weeks, 2 days and 15 hours. So I imagine it's stable enough.

    <Sigh>

It really does make you look about two years old when you say such things as "pr0". I really cannot be bothered messing around an I am quite happy to use windows which doesn't crash with me ever really. This is XP I am talking about as well which I hear enough people slag off. It does everything I ask and I don't have to mess around configuring things.
