    Really?? That's not fair!!!

Didnt we (Victorian times kinda thing) get our presents on Boxing Day? That's why it's called boxing day, as the put all the pressies in boxes, or was someone having a giggle?

I thought it was when you boxed up all your old stuff?

Happy Christmas all - I haven't been as active in politics and debate lately. Shameful - I hope you all missed me! :p

Well, I was once told that on Boxing Day you got rid of things you didn't need 'cos you had all your shiny new possessions, but I'm not convinced.

    Almost, but not quite.

The day after Christmas was apparently the day when all the poor boxes in church were opened, and the proceeds distributed out to the poor. I dont know if its just an urban myth or not, but thats apparently where it comes from:)

no wonder i've been in so much bother over the years ...boxing day in our street was when you punched the bastard that had annoyed you most in the last year.

    from probably unreliable xmas site

'In English-speaking countries, the day following Christmas Day is called 'Boxing Day'. This word comes from the custom which started in the Middle Ages around 800 years ago: churches would open their 'alms boxe' (boxes in which people had placed gifts of money) and distribute the contents to poor people in the neighbourhood on the day after Christmas. The tradition continues today - small gifts are often given to delivery workers such as postal staff and children who deliver newspapers.'

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at TheSite.org

Yes indeed, Merry Christmas all (even my routine detractors)!

    See you again in 2004!

    Oh isn't this nice? :)

Those who get their presents on the 24th are indeed lucky folk. In Spain it's not Santa who comes to most households but the Three Wise Men. Sadly they only do so on the 6th of January- no presents until then, and only 2 or 3 days to play with them before going back to school. So unfair...
