    Go to a bank.

Go to your bank, they will be able to provide you with a foreign draft/cheque in US dollars. However, there will be a fee, usually between £20-£30.

Best way of sending money abroad is by Paypal or Western Union. If it's a company you're buying from then credit card.

It might be cheaper to do a transfer directly from your bank to theirs - your bank customer service helpline will be able to tell you how much it costs and which banking details you need from the person in America.

Also it can take up to 3weeks to cash a foriegn check, as has been said best options are western union, credit card and direct bank transfer.
