Tomorrow I am going to get a passport through the premium service (because I need it quickly). The website says it takes four hours. Do I actually have to wait around for four hours or can I go off and come back?

In case anyone else needs to know. I went to the center after booking a time on the phone. The security at the entrance is a bit like in an airport. then when my number was called, I went to the desk and handed in my form, all correct and signed etc. Took slip to the pay desk, paid and got a receipt then got told a time to come back- in four hours. Went back and exchanged my receipt for the passport. Really simple but way more expensive than doing it by post.

the passport was £93, it would have been a free renewal/extension if I had more time. Add to that the cost of petrol, parking and four hours with nowt to do but shop... boo expensive
