Vista is slower on net.. why?

Ok, had old comp connected to net at 8.1mb/s my broadband speed,

vista, according to websites connects at 300summit kbs which must be wrong,

how can i check the internet speed on the pc (what it is connected at, the only one I can get is the wireless network speed at 108mb/s)

    Wireless,

    Got drivers for the netgear wpn111 wireless adapter, drivers for router won't install (not compatable) but it is connecting.

    Found drivers for the DG834PN router, for vista, downloading now at a 70kbs from netgears website :( SLOW

    What version of Vista are you running?

    That's very peculiar. Try using a download manager and downloading a large file, that should max it out. My connection is fine on Vista really. Have you gone to netgear's website and got all the latest drivers yea?

    That's really quite peculiar...

    But I'm not running wireless (yet) so things may change...

    Hmmm, installed, i dunno bout difference, when i downloaded through firefox from netgears site i only got 70kb/s download speed, norm i get 200-300

    70kb/s is about the fastest I ever get, and I'm supposed to be on the JaNET mega backbone thingy. I blame the building's LAN :(

    It must be the wireless. Can you dual boot? Use XP for any connection intensive things:)
