As in the political stuff...

Been getting into it, leftwing bands like Anti-Flag, Propagandhi... Obviously more well known bands such as Greenday and NoFX have written political material as well as a lot of the old punk bands.

Can anybody recommend any bands?

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Gogol Bordello are probably the only recent punky stuff I know. Pink Flag by Wire is an awesome album from the 70's. I don't know how political any of that stuff is, it's just good music.

There's a few other non-punk artists that write a bit of political material too, like Bright Eyes and the Decemberists.

If you like Gogol Bordello check out Flogging Moly, I think they've toured together.

    Bad Religion
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    The Clash
    Dead Kennedys
    Crass
    Conflict
    Fugazi
    Subhumans
    Culture Shock
    Stiff Little Fingers
    The Pop Group
    Gang of Four
    Mark Stewart & The Maffia

(these last 3 are post-punk, rather than punk, but are excellent and political)

    The Dead Kennedys :thumb:
I'd also highly reccomend Aus-Rotten and Submachine
    Casualties
With Anti-Flag, then there is Justin Sane's solo stuff
Operation Ivy, Common Rider is decent, though not very political
    A Global Threat
    Clit 45
Lower Class brats are alright too

Alot of bands off Havoc Records is pretty good too.

    Sex Pistols
    Clash

Not too sure I'd class Decemberists or Gogol Bordello as punk, tbh.

    i'll recommend

    Refused
    Fugazi
    Minor Threat
    Quicksand
    Rival Schools
    At The Drive In

The top three are the most political

  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
they are more punk than a few other suggestions!

regardless, fans of punk tend to like ATDI in my experience.

spose so, i got into them when i was really into ska punk and skacore so i guess it appeals to that kind of musical taste

I wouldn't class Bright Eyes as punk either. Read it again.

    To second other people's suggestions

    Fugazi
    Clash
    Sex Pistols
    Dead Kennedys (fucking brilliant)

Iggy & The Stooges, MC5 and 13th Floor Elevators. Not really punk but you'll probably dig it!

Great bands, but not really political, except for MC5's involvement with John Sinclair etc.

I don't know a huge amount about them, but I don't think they were overtly political, anymore than the Sex Pistols were.
