Review of drug classification system

JadedJaded Posts: 2,682 Boards Guru
Alarm as ministers ditch plan to overhaul drug classification from the Guardian, previously discussed on the boards here, and here's a link to the original report, Making a Hash of It?.

The response from Drugscope is, as usual, reasoned and detailed and well worth a read.

Hardly surprising is it? A review of the ABC system would have pointed out that its totally rubbish, completely unfit for purpose and doesnt do what the government says it does.

Exactly...Not to mention it hardly redirects police activities or focuses them. Here in Leeds they just had a major clamp down on cannabis. Seriously! Loads of arrests and prosecutions to follow, massive hauls seized, but nothing about cocaine or anything else, which you would argue is kinda the wrong direction with classifications.

Go the review i say, Go!

It seems to have happened all over the country.
In derby it was called Operation Carnival.

That is exactly what the review did. Unfortunately the government didn't take it on board, although everything is up for review again in two years.

The article says they have also ditched the proposal to impose posession thresholds, which may not be such a bad thing.

Of course, the Science and Technology report couldnt really have been more damning, so a specific on into what could replace the ABC system would have brought on untold damage to the government. And we all know they care a lot more about their jobs and power than they do us the voters.

You're right though, that proposal for impose guilty until you prove your innocence thresholds was a nasty move even for them.
