Can anyone get on bluelight?

You watch the DEA might have shut it down haha. It wouldn't suprise me, although it's a great site for harm reduction and has saved many lives.

I hope it's just temporary.

I doubt they could, they may have forced ISP's to stop people going to it, but the website is based in .nu which is basically a tiny island in the middle of the pacific.

But, if the moderators are in the US they could have been arrested which is possible under some of the anti-drug laws there.

Hmm... it's been down for a few hours without warning, odd.

Could be any number of things I guess.

Better than erowid for information I think, hope it's not forever.

Its a mixed picture, certainly some of their FAQ's are well researched and worth a read, but because of its open nature there are loads of people spouting rubbish too.

Erowid again its a mixed picture, they do some things really well, others obviously dont interest them much and they dont put much effort in. But given its a two person show its still bloody impressive.

According to this site, the domain suffix .nu is located in Niue, which is in Polynesia.

    The Netherlands is .nl

You can have whatever domain suffix you like just as long as it's available to people from different countries. Sometimes domains are limited to those who live in certain countries.

Exactly what I thought, and I assumed (I'm not all that hot with computers) that their databases would be there as well.

Nope, its Russia, a country which is getting a fairly bad reputation for allowing anything on websites.

    Interesting.

Right I'm not very technical but this means they have 2 servers, one in each country?

Just because a domain has a certain suffix doesn't mean that it's hosted in that country, it can be hosted anywhere in the world. I have had domains with a .de/.cc/.co.uk etc hosted in the USA.

You can buy just a domain name from a registrar and then point that domain to where ever your website is hosted, in Bluelights case, Holland.
